I don’t know where to put this so I’m posting it here for discussion and advice. Something happened to me today that troubled me and made me really sad. I was at church, talking to folks with another volunteer. Randomly, I mentioned to the other volunteer about potentially hanging out in the city after the service to see if any Prince related events were still going on. The lady looked at me curiously and said ‘Prince?’. When I explained that it was the anniversary, she said ‘OMG... that’s why’.

Turns out that she is an ER nurse in the cities and there was a sudden increase in ODs on 4/20 and 4/21. She didn’t understand why the rate increased so sharply and she had asked a peer about it; all they said was that it had been this way since 2016... 4/20 and 4/21 are tough but things go back to normal on 4/22.

I was shocked to hear this. I wonder if there is anything we can do to help raise awareness that P wouldn’t want this and that he’d want his fans to get help. Everybody struggles in their own ways. He’d want us to love and help each other. We are in this 2gether after all.

Do you all have any thoughts or recommendations?

Yeah, I have no idea. How long has the weed holiday been in existence? The nurse was telling me that they were seeing a rush of opiate OD’s. Lots of life saving shots and inhalers needed. I guess it could be a bigger situation than just Prince but it was a surprising bit of info about the spike around the same period of time.
