Purple Rain - why wasn’t Sheila E in it? Prince and Shelia we’re Friends way before Purple Rain, was she offered a part? Did she want one? I never thought to ask before. No More Haters on the Internet. | |

But like BartVanHemelen said, she wasn't in the 'purple' orbit yet. . When Magnoli was looking at the scene to put the script to film he didn't see Sheila E, he saw Prince (the nituloveR) Morris Day the Time, Vanity 6 Jill Jones . So that is probably the big thing. | |

. Which part isn't true? . I've just checked Duane Tudahl's book. First mention of Sheila E is for the 27 December 1983 entry, which also mentions that "the bulk of the movie was now in the can" and that the director and editor would assemble a rough cut to determine what still needed to be shot. Sheila is mentioned as "someone who had been visiting Prince in the studio recently" (yet she wasn't mentioned before). . At that time they were way too late in the movie's production process to implement significant scenario changes, lacking both money and time. Shoehorning in Sheila would have been a costly affair, and I doubt anyone involved was even considering this. Prince's work with Sheila only seems to really kick off mid-February. .
