Lyrically which are prince's best songs?

I love great lyrics and anyone who has the power to knock you over and really emotionally affect you with just a few lines dylan, cohen, lennon, elliott smith are just a few examples which do you think are prince's best songs lyrically?

I'm just like everybody else I need love.....and water.

It depends on your taste in poetry. I always thought Little Red Corvette was a stunner. That opening line:

"I guess I should have known by the way you parked your car sideways that it wouldn't last"

does it for me. cool

I totally agree, and hence, why LRC is on my list. It's totally underrated lyrically. The imagery that the lyrics evoke is second-to-none. Overall, LRC is pure genius. I never tire of it.

Co-sign. Love love love it. Raspberry Beret feels the same in a lot of ways.
Agreed he has so many great lyrics, many of them already mentioned here. This thread reminds me again how vast his creative genius truly was. Almost hard to wrap your head around something that seems basically limitless.
It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Raspberry Beret has fabulous lyrics! It's such a fun song...and if it was warm she wouldn't wear much more.

.

I didn't even think of RB, probably because, while I like the song, it's not one of my favourites.
