Purple Underground Vol 3 & Vol 6

NO TROLL THREADS! NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not. Posting Prince and associated artist videos from sites such as YouTube is also not allowed. Posts of this nature will be deleted and repeat offenders will be first warned, and then banned. Troll threads, fake tracklists, and attention seeking rumor threads will be also be swiftly dealt with. These rules are strictly enforced!

***************************

The new Purple Underground bootlegs are making the rounds. Of course, most of the material was leaked to us over the last couple of weeks, so, not much to talk about... wink

They have also listed the Parade rehearsal on disc 2 (tracks 1-15) and the rehearsal on disc 4 (tracks 1-15) as different months. They are in fact from one long rehearsal on the same day.

Surely the version of Raspberry Beret on Vol 3 is worthy of a mention?

Or did I miss that as an earlier leak?

Either way, I thought it sounded great with a guitar solo. Wonder if one day a similar studio version will surface...

It's really something, isn't it? It's like 1999, Purple Rain and ATWIAD all rolled into one. The electric guitar is really bangin', but also very breezy. Great stuff.

Unless it's soundboard, I would bet it's either the same thing that's been around for 20+ years or possibly a "remaster/tweak" from the same source.

I don't know what you've just heard so I can't compare, but, the original releases from back in the day are among the best audience recordings in circulation, imo.

IIRC, there have been some "remasters" in recent years, I don't know if they sound "better" than the original releases or not. It's probably a matter of opinion.

Is it me or it seems the 1999 tour rehearsal is a continuation of the SITW(DNC)/KPD/Lisa Linn drum machine rehearsal that leaked sometimes ago? It seems to start pretty much where the other one stops.

I asked about this elsewhere and was told Vol. 4 will be 1984 stuff and Vol. 5 will be 1985 stuff.
Makes sense, but, we'll see if it pans out or not.
