She thought she was his babysitter, she wanted to quit but had her family pray for her. confused

Well, since I didn't hear it yet, I'll just say, if there aren't a couple of kick him in the shin moments all the sugary sweet stuff starts sounding like butt-kissing bs. They had to of locked horns sometimes in 29 years.

Yeah, she didn't choose her words very carefully in that interview. The FB Q&A I watched with her yesterday was pretty good. She did say that some things she is saving for the book, when asked if he spoke to her about Vanity/Denise.She then revealed that he did and that all of that would be in there. She spoke very highly of him in the Q&A.

Which interview was this? She worked for/with him for 20+ years. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were times where it was tough working for him. Heck even Shelby J. said there were some times where she and Prince fought like siblings. I don’t get Kim’s comment about being a babysitter tho. confused

I believe that it was in the interview with Skip that she said that she felt like a babysitter at times iirc.To me,she seemed to be speaking about rock stars in general and that they could be difficult at times..She also said in the Q&A yesterday that Prince would often use her as the mediator if people were fighting and would tell her to fix it.She said that she wants to reveal the Prince she came to know as a person and not the rock star.

I do appreciate Kim's openness. She said very nice things about him in the Q&A and said she also wanted to make sure that people know what a giving person he was.She said that her hair care line that they were working on is on the way as well.I'm listening to her new Q&A with Michael Dean and it's very interesting so far.

I just finished watching the Q&A with Michael Dean on the Prince Podcast Youtube channel. She said that working with celebrities is "glorified babysitting" at times. She mentioned that her family and friends prayed her through many situations. The questions were mainly concerning Prince's hair and she answered most of them along with a few others

it's no big deal, the more time the more unflattering things that'll come out, right after he died people are respectful just like they were with mj and elvis. the stories that come out later tend to be both more honest and more dishonest. Priscilla Presley said recently that Elvis committed suicide, which is bullshit but Elvis has been dead for 40 years and she has to say something to make the story fresh, lowdown but that's how people are. His best friend said the same thing when there is absolutely no evidence of suicide, Elvis had a heartattack straining at the stool, doesn't sound very intentional to me. it was indirect suicide just like prince or mj, anyone doing anything that is self destructive is committing indirect suicide but that ain't the same.

No way Elvis committed suicide--who the hell would go out on a toilet seat with a Bible in hand?!! I remember I had a best friend back in high school when Elvis died who was an Elvis fanatic (she even dated a 30 year old Elvis impersonator named Terry Tiger lol). She was devastated. But she was knowledgeable about all things "Elvis" and we had many discussions about his demise. She even claimed that she had met him in person although I never believed that... My late Mom did though at a show and got an autograph. Still wonder what happened to that...

ya, no way, he was depressed and unhappy, i'd be pretty depressed if i was surrounded with the kind of mess he was too. I don't see how or why these guys need all those people around them, same with great boxers, the entourage syndrome, not all of them though, been many great ones who preferred to train alone. anyway, cool your mom got an autograph, never will understand how people lose those kinds of things, i have an autograph from one of my heroes and i cherish it and told people not to touch it.

I really can't take this anymore. I am starting to think that people in his circle on the day of his death knew that to make a name off of him, they had to make up a few nice antecdotes, but the reality is that they stuck around him for more than 2 years because they had rather be in Switzerland living a glamourous life than on "their couch." achieving nothing. I figured she would point out his flaws but I never thought her reasons for sticking around were so callous. I hope those parts of the interview were taken out of context (and that she did find the "light of God" in him and it wasn't just from his music), but I now picture another book in which someone says they "Love" the man, but then states all the BS they went through as the selfless and accomplished people they want us to believe they are (or they want to believe they are...like a nun who councils death row mass murderers trying to find a glimmer of humanity in them because it helps the nun to prove her goodness in God's eyes) . I feel a bit duped and am done having any faith in people associated with him, and for the first time, I am starting to doubt whether I even like Prince. I am probably (hopefully) overreacting, but I am having trouble even wanting to listen to his music because I feel like its emotionally manipulative rather than coming from a real place of empathy on his part. I feel emotionally manipulated by all of them (Prince included) . Another interview this week she said "to know him is to love him" but I am starting to think that she is selling her book with phrases like that and that what she let slip in that podcast is what she really thought and that in previous interviews that she wasn just really good at crocodile tears. (I wonder how long it took her to bust out his socks) I really hope the book convinces me otherwise but I don't know if I have the courage to read it. I know it sounds crazy to be emotionally invested in people I don't know but I always so admired people of talent in the performing arts and I always thought it had to come from deep wells of genuine feeling even if it is packaged in hype, imagination, ego, and aura--I guess I was naive.

Maybe you should stick with listening to his music and not listening to other people's interpretations of how he represented himself. None of us human beings are perfect...and neither was Prince. If you didn't know him personally, then the only thing that ever mattered to you was his music and what it meant to you and your life. If that is no longer true, let it go; if the music still speaks to you, then embrace it.

That's the problem --it is starting to not speak to me anymore and I hate that feeling. No artist needs to be perfect--I was a Sinatra fan and he was one of the most flawed people who ever lived but he had a good side and his music came from that side. I thought Prince had a good side but when a 28 year employee comes off that callous (along with him not having any family or wife or kids or true friends and people seeming to care less about his death than prompting up their own status and talents)---it is starting to make me doubt any nice things ever said about him. AND THAT SUCKS. Instead of the music coming from genuine emotions--even if they are cryptic (emotions in which I can relate to on a basic level because they seem geniune on some level) the singing and lyrics are starting to seem calculated and harder to relate to.

Uh, I don't know why it is harder to be a fan of Prince's music than it was in the 80s or 90s. He had a reputation of being difficult, manipulative, and controlling back then. That doesn't stop me from appreciating the music that he put out as I always have. Prince certainly wasn't any more egotistical and manipulative than Sinatra, whose music I also listen to. Either the music still speaks to you and your life or it doesn't.

I don't understand what is it that Kim has said to make U think she's "so callous" ? NOBODY is perfect.

EVERYBODY has there good and bad days. She worked for Prince for OVER 20 YEARS! She was just telling the truth that it wasn't all peaches & cream. What is wrong with that? EVERYBODY has disagreements. Plus Kim has made it no secret that she wasn't a Prince fan. She knew Prince THE PERSON. NOT the entertainer. If U can't handle knowing the truth about Prince. Then U were NEVER really a fan of his in the first place.

I've listened to many of Kim's interviews and I've never heard her say anything bad about Prince. Anytime you are in a relationship with someone for as long as Kim was with Prince, you are bound to go through hard times and disagreements. They probably argued like a brother and sister.

.

She speaks very nice about Prince here:

Her comment about him having his "asshole" days in the other interview didn't bother me. I amnot that judgmental of imperfection. I know he was demanding. Prince could have been stressed or whatever. I can take that. But her giving "Switzerland" as a reason to endure his BS and not just quit rubbed me the wrong way. I hope she stayed for more reasons than that--but I am not sure. She also took the man's damn socks--WTF is that about? She said her family and friends prayed for her and helped her though it...I would pray for someone too if they continued to work for someone who drove them crazy and made them want to quit--just so they could be a hairstylist for celebrities, make a bit of bank and hang out in Switzerland. That sounds like some shitty priorities. To be honest with you, I am probably being too hard on her and looking at the comment too seriously, but damn, I would like it-- if once, just once, someone could say they loved the man or even liked the man without a career to boost or a book to sell or a ego to stroke...Damn, it is getting tiring.

Her comment about him having his "asshole" days in the other interview didn't bother me. I am that judgmental of imperfection. To be honest with you, I am probably being too hard on her and looking at the comment too seriously, but damn, I would like it if once, just once someone could say they loved the man or even liked the man without a career to boost or a book to sell or a ego to stroke...Damn, it is getting tiring.

Then U were NEVER really a fan of his in the first place.

.

IKR? Me too! 2-years later, and this is wearing me out!! rolleyes

.

I'm sure Prince was hard to work for. I don't think I could have worked for him....not very long anyways, that's for sure!

Sinatra had children and a first wife who geniunely loved him and were there for him when he died. He was extremely generous too and he was the opposite of manipulative. He was bipolar though (as he himself admitted), hypersensitive, mean, moody, controlling, brutally honest, testing, a bit violent, politically disloyal, possibly dabbling in crime, stubborn, egotistical.. He was far from perfect. But when he was good, he meant it and he hurt deeply for Ava Gardner.

I enjoyed that interview too.I thought the Q&A with Michael was good too and I learned a few new things about him.I thought it was very sweet what she said about her children calling him their friend and that he always told people to bring their kids and they called him "Uncle Prince."
