Act I - April 1st 1993 Fox Theatre Detroit, MI 25 years ago today! This was my first Prince show! How time flies..... Was anyone else online here at this show? I was 14 years old and used paper route money to pay for concert tickets and Greyhound bus tickets from Columbus Ohio to Detroit Michigan. My mom chaperoned. I even procured a letter from one of my favorite teachers to make the case for my father to allow me to go. I spun it as a science project  . Something went wrong and I was unable to get tickets that were allocated for Controversy fan club members and the show sold out in minutes. The lady from Controversy was able to put me in touch with a member that had extra tickets for sale. I don't recall exact details, but my mom and I took a cab from the bus station to meet up with this lady and her son at a restaurant in Detroit. I purchased the tickets from them and they showed us around and helped us navigate the city. They also told us where the "after party" would be. This was my first experience with the purple love between Prince fans. They could have easily just sold the tickets and said see ya, but they instead they stuck around to show us the town, and make sure we made it to the show okay. I don't recall their names a quarter of a century later, but never forgot their kindness. Needless to say the show was amazing and my mind was completely blown. We went somewhere for an after party, but Prince never showed up. There was a short woman at the after party that kept saying how cute it was that I was with my mom. She was clutching a large bag, and claimed to be Prince's sister. I didn't really believe her. I had no idea what Prince's sister looked like at the time. Today I kind of wonder, but I'm still doubtful. It was April fool's day after all. Does anyone remember where the after party was held?"As long as I can hear you smilin' baby

I was at that concert too! It was an amazing show. My friend and I sat in the third row. Not thatbthere was much sitting going on. She ended up going on stagevto dance. I was too shy...ugh regret it now. It was so cool being so close to the stage. I can't believe it was 25 years ago. | |

I could still see okay and had an awesome time. I probably would have been too shy to dance also. Years later I was lucky enough to get second row seats to Musicology and I was scared stiff whenever it looked like he might bring people up to dance. Do you recall where the after party was in 1993? Someone on Facebook said It was St. Andrew's, but was cancelled. I know that we went somewhere with a DJ playing Prince music and there were lots of other fans from the concert there. Yes it was at St. Andrews. We ended up going there hoping Prince would show up but we didn't see him. We did see Mayte on a balcony but she didn't come down to the main floor. It was a fun night. | |

I was there!!! Love your story. The things we would do to see a Prince concert.
This particular show was my 5th Prince concert. April 2nd 1993 was my 6th. I clearly remember the day the tickets went on sale. This was back in the day before they were sold online. My options were either drive to a Ticketmaster location and stand in line (and I’ve done that many times) or call Ticketmaster on the phone. The tickets went on sale on a Saturday and I had the bright idea to borrow telephone extension cords and bring them to the office that I worked at. I brought a friend to help out with my mission. Remember, it’s Saturday and the office was closed, so we were not disturbing anyone. We each had 5 phones in front of us and even before the tickets went on sale, we started dialing and dialing and re-dialing and re-dialing. All phones were on speaker and it was a great system - if only it had worked! We finally got through about 10 minutes after the tickets went on sale and were told that both shows were sold out. OMG… I think I actually cried. Of course, I didn’t believe it and I told my friend to KEEP DIALING. We got the same response a few more times, that both shows were sold out.
I ended up buying tickets from scalpers. I went with one of my friends to the April 1st show (way in the very back of the balcony). April 2nd, I went with my husband and we had first row in the balcony. That balcony was shaking and swaying so much, it felt like it was going to fall down. Thanks for the memories! xxoo | |

Thanks for the memories! xxoo I love your phone story! I was in tears when they sold out. I thought it was my only chance to see Prince as there was rumor that he was retiring from live concerts. He changed his name to the symbol shortly after, so technically "Prince" was retired. Looking back I was really lucky to have scored tickets and had gotten to go at all. It was a relatively small venue too. I was under that balcony and I remember it shaking. For a split second I was concerned that it might come down. That concern didn't last long, as I was distracted by Prince doing his thing! Does anyone recall the statue incident? "As long as I can hear you smilin' baby

My mom was appalled, and I tried my best to hide my amusement. When I think about it today my real concern was that he may have caused damage to a beautiful historical theater, climbing up there in heels and all. I hope that they do release it, or even the one that I was at the previous day. I hope that someone from the estate is reading these posts. What I wouldn't give to have video or audio of my first show, any of the two others that I went to, or even ones that I missed out on. I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way. We know that he likely recorded most of the shows for performance evaluation, so they do exist. It would be really cool if the estate would make all of those available on demand with a choice between streaming or physical media. As far as I'm concerned no editing or over production would be needed. I would support the estate over bootlegs any day if they put out something I want and it helps keep Paisley Park open. I remember the statue incident. Everyone got a kick out of that. I hope they do release it was a Great show! I lost contact with my friend who I went with. We ended up driving to Minneapolis in July,drove by Paisley park where there was a commotion going on outside. They were getting ready to film a video. We ended up being extras to Loose and Papa that day. It was nice seeing him up close and personal. My friend wore a bikini that got a lot of attention!!His demeanor seemed different than the concert in April in Detroit. Was anyone else there that day? | |

Ok, now 25 years for me today. Prince did 3 shows in Chicago. April 4th, 5th, and 6th. I went to the main shows on the 4th and 5th. I also went to the aftershow at the Cabaret Metro after the main show on the 5th. 3 shows in less than 36 hours. Heaven!!! I remember coming back to Minneapolis and Prince being at Glam Slam and having an afterparty in the Erotic City room at Glam Slam on the 7th. TRUE BLUE |

The Sacrifice of Victor, Come, and Papa were highlights for me. For Papa, he literally had a purple notebook that he was reading the lyrics from. This is such an underrated tour. I suppose since so few bootlegs exist of it. TRUE BLUE |

Although I think the ultimate version of Come was at the DNA Lounge aftershow. I remember getting both boots This Is My Night (DNA aftershow) and Licence 2 Funk (Act I, Radio City Music Hall) from a record fair here in Liverpool around 94 and being completely awe struck. Agree on it being an underrated tour. Shame a soundboard has never surfaced. I thought he made a perfect set list; first half virtually the whole Symbol album and second half hits with some rarities like She’s Always In My Hair and Irresistable Bitch. | |
