Did Prince originally wrote the lyrics to "Jungle Love" for Vanity 6....?

I just came back from the Prince expo in Amsterdam. Great experience (in contrast to what some vinegar-peeing Belgium media wrote...), with many clothes, instruments, lyrics etc. I also did the VIP tour, which was well worth the money. Some highlights were the original handwritten script for "Dreams" (precursor for PR), which was fun to read, a polaroid of Prince's original sleeve design for 1999 (containing the drawn letters, alongside much more collage-type art, including Marilyn Monroe!), Prince's first 70's Gibson (completely modified), the original "Cloud" bass, and most of all the many costumes. There was also a Hohner telecaster, but not the famous one, unfortunately. Kind staff, most of them appear hardcore fans themselves!

Among the many items, I noticed one original lyric sheet, in Prince's handwritting, for "Jungle Love". In the lyric, several times references to Vanity 6 were made, like some instructions telling Brenda and Susan what to sing ("On the count to 8... undress"). The text ends with the description of a fictional audience applauding and chanting "Vanity 6, Vanity 6".

Was it previously known that this song may have been written for that group? No mention about that on PrinceVault...

Jesse Johnson wrote "Jungle Love". Last year he posted audio of his original demo cassette he let Prince listen to. Prince might have put some lyrics to it at some point (I don' t remember who wrote the final lyrics we know).

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

.
I know JJ wrote the music to the song, but the lyric sheet in the expo was def P's handwriting. So, he must be credited as co-author

According to this gentlemen who catalogued many items at Paisley the song was going to be for Vanity Sixx.

Didn't Prince take full credit for the song just out of being a spiteful little bitch about something? LOL

It doesn't seem like something for V6. But, could have been. Musically it doesn't feel like something V6 would have done. I'd love to see all those lyrics, though. It's intriguing.

Even more intriguing about the handwritten lyrics: they were originally written in pencil, but contained some corrections in ink. Maybe the text was later adapted this way for the perspective of Morris

Could it be Prince contributed to the lyrics.

Do anybody pay attention Jesse only gave Prince a rough demo of the song prince wrote the lyrics and made all the changes as to what we hear now . So basically Jesse had a loose idea prince could of started the idea for vanity after working on it .jesse tells the story it’s no secret to what he gave to prince not a full song

A rough demo? The main hook, bass, keys, etc., and the guitar solo are all there. Listening to the demo, it's clear what the song is and that it's not a skeleton of an idea (a la "Alphabet St" or "Kiss").

That same post claims that
‘Prince performed horns, B3, & programmed Line LM-1, Prince wrote lyrics/melody‘.

I could hand write the lyrics to Purple Rain today. When I'm dead, people can see them and the world will believe I was the co-author.

Jesse played his song to Prince. It wasn't finished, it didn't have lyrics and was not quite all there yet. Prince then added lyrics and a melody.

.

The question is, were the lyrics already done and there was another song that was thought to be for Vanity 6? Or was Jesse's demo seen as a song for Vanity 6? For the first Vanity 6 album, there were a number of songs (partially) written by others. These "experiments" outside of the official Prince albums were a bit more open to outside collaborations.

.

So, the original Jungle Love lyrics were meant for Vanity 6. Was that with Jesse's music or with other music?

.

As to writing credits, a lot of that was about perception. Prince wasn't above appropriation. Mostly, he made up for it in different ways though.

I wonder if there is a possibility that Prince thought of a Time/Vanity 6 production -Morris & Vanity leading?

I had also thought of that possibility, however, at the end of the lyrics, the ‘public’ only chants for V6, not for Morris/The Time...

yeah, this song is too 'masculine' I cannot see Vanity 6 leading this one

Unless it was Vanity 6 (openly) lead by the Time and people chant Vanity 6, to Morris & the Times dismay (in the movie). I'm thinking of 'What's Love Got To Do With It?' movie where people started chanting and cheering for Tina, and not Ike on his song.

it doesnt matter what prince write down, say out of his mouth we always gonna flip and say well maybe he meant this maybe he wanted to say when he clearly states what he said. i see why prince barely talked when he do we always turn it into something else

That is what they also did on the Vanity 6 version of Sex Shooter (killer song)

I could see Vanity taking the lead on this song alright but it certainly sits funny after all these years of it being the most famous Time song.

Try using some logical thinking. They found the lyrics in a notebook at Paisley Park with notes refering to Vanity but Jesse actualy wrote the lyrics and used he telepathic powers to transmit the lyrics to Prince's notebook.

I gave the link to the man who saw the notebook and talks about it in the podcast but you know I guess you are one of those people that has to get in a spaceship to see if the earth is really round eek
