Oh lawd, when will it stop. This is a man who got fired by Prince for not bringing him a space heater. Still Owen did shop him to the companies and was the first to sign him up to any deal (American Artists) and later he got Andre sent to him.

Still, it is hardly a books worth. My shelf is nowhere as good as that, but the one shelf will soon be 2. I have bought 5 books in the past year and looking to score some more.

I will post the interview with Pepe Willie Owen did not get fired because of a space heater.

Really I am sure Owen is not going to be honest about the real reason he got let go or the claims that he mismanaged Jessie and Andre.

See Pepe's interview.

http://beautifulnightschitown.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-work-pt-1-pepe-willie-talks-2.html

They practiced in our home from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., 10 hours a day. They worked really hard. Prince gotten a sum of money and he was buying all this new equipment from all the stores. Husney was his manager.
One day, Prince was at his home after rehearsal. I went over there, because, I couldn't get him on the phone. It was after they had practiced for 10 hours. So, I'm over (at his) house on France—he had just got signed by Warner Brothers, so, he had his own home. I was knocking on the door and he's not answering. I hear this tapping from the back of the house.
So, I go around to the side of the house, I look in these windows and I can see Prince playing drums. He's kicking drums after 10 hours of rehearsal. So, in between the beats, I'm knocking on the window, so, he can hear me. Then, he finally heard me and I said "Open the door, man!" So, he opens the door. We go down in the basement and we're talking. He was talking about what he needed. I said "Look man, your manager is supposed to be doing this stuff for you" and I said "Well, I'll go talk to (Husney)."
The next day, I go to (Husney's) office; he had an ad company. I said "Well, Prince needs this and Prince needs that. You're his manager and you're supposed to do this stuff for him."
Then he said --and these are his exact words-- "What, am I supposed to quit my job here at the ad company for some guy who probably won't make it?" I couldn't make that up...
Then I said, " [T]hen you're out, you're fired." I don't know if I had the right to say it, but, I said it, because, I was protecting my cousin. He said "Well, why don't you be his manager?"
I said, "Well, I'm not a manager. I can't be his manager. But, I'm not going to let him get screwed out here." Those were my exact words. So, I went back to Prince and let him know what was going on. He and Husney parted ways shortly after that. So, now, Prince needed management. He's signed to Warner Bros. He's got a good record out that's doing well, For You. But, he had no manager.
I knew Don Taylor, manager of Bob Marley and The Wailers, through my connections. I called him and said "I've got a guy who's signed with Warner Bros. His name is Prince and he needs management." He said, "Yeah, I know Mo Ostin (then president of Warner Bros. Records)." He sent Prince and myself two first-class airline tickets to fly to Miami. He got us both hotel rooms. He came over to the hotel and he and Prince went back to his house to talk business. I just stayed out of the way.
I told Prince, "Look, I'm not a manager, but, I'm not going to let you get screwed." But, I did manage him for 30 days. Warner Bros. as sending me all the correspondence and necessary things.

Yeah, it's OK. Everyone tells a story from their perspective or based on their own agenda. A historian's job is to confront different account of similar events and try to figure out which is true, or admit that we're not sure. The more people talk the more historians can do that job. If Owen gives a statement that contradicts Pepé's, then it's up to each of us to see if a third party that's considered neutral can give their version of said events, or to decide which of the 2 we believe is more trustworthy, or to admit we can't be sure. Regardless, the more people talk the better nod

People tell stories to make themselves look good. I am always supcious of anyone who can tell the business of other people but do not put their business out in the street.

I will check out the book to see if Owen is honest.

Sometimes it's not even a question of "truth." People may agree on the facts (i.e., a certain event occured on a certain day) but have their own point of view on say, the intent or importance or ramifications of that event. It's not always about one person being "right" and another "wrong." Just about seeing something from different vantage points.

-

Anyway, with Prince being dead, the main way we will learn new things about him is via other people's stories and opinions about him (and of course via his music and other output that we haven't yet accessed!). So let 'em all give their perspectives and thoughts and we can synthesize it all.

It is real easy did Owen think that Prince was not going to make it and therefore he was not willing to put his business aside to fully manage him. Not about perspective. Either this is what he felt and then expressed verbally or the whole senerio is a lie.

We have associates who have no problem airing his personal business to make a buck but they do not air out their laundry.

Since Prince choose to forget Owen's name on the Larry King show. I suspect that Owen was in the write off column a long time ago for reasons that Owen is not going to be honest about.

You said he was evil. Not me. I will check out the book and see how he presents himself. I love your non-thinking response. At this point we have not seen one associate with the exception of Sheile E take any responsibiltiy for their actions or spill dirt on themselves.

Even Matye. Dudes do not burn up shit and just stop acknowlege your exsistence on the earth for no reason and I recently stumbled across something that she left out of her book.

No big deal because she will not be the last to do and I suspect Owen had done the same.

Calm down, Laura. The book's not out yet. Seriously, how do you get through your daily routine with this much anger and rage directed at strangers? It seems exhausting!

Yes, anger is VERY exhausting!

.

But, I don't think Laura is angry -- just typing on a message board makes it look that way. When you can't talk to a person face-to-face, it's a different perception.

i thought i read the most substantial prince books out there, but seeing that picture, i can't say that i have, because i don't know if those are better or not. However, I still think dave hill's poplife and per nilsen's dmsr are the top ones, pop life is dated because it came out after lovesexy but it was a great book must have been kinda good, prince sent dave hill a christmas card i've heard. he also denied knowing about the book in the 91 rs interview.
