I think i just have. I gave my best lady-pal my DVD of Purple Rain, and she just loved it. since then i've been giving her some Prince albums.. and now, she's hooked! She's been asking me alot of questions about the man and now she regrets not going to One Nite Alone concert with me..

do that with enough people and soon you can call yourselves Prince's Witnesses!
just kidding...i've done the same thing with several friends. Once they realize there is more to P than purple, they start to dig it.

Yeah, isn't that usually the way? People will judge Prince on his image and dismiss him and then when they hear the music it's gameover!

I try not to do that. I hate when people try to shove other musicians in my face, so out of courtesy I don't do it to them.
The most that may happen is someone might stop over my place and see an entire shelf of nothing but Prince video tapes and DVDs, some of them I even have sealed backup copies. I took a 4 hour drive down to Columbus Ohio last summer with a friend of mine who was obsessed with Madonna, and made me listen to The Imaculate Collection the whole way down there and back, I was ready to have a nervous breakdown.

I never get into anything/anyone unless I've gotten into it on my own, so I never really try to get anyone else into what/who I'm into.

This is supposed to make you into some sort of hero or something? It's healthy to accept help from other people! sure, i guess. but it never works. people can try and try and try to get me into some artist, and it never sticks. i have to discover something for myself to fully appreciate it. so i don't try doing the same with others. plus, the stuff i like is very personal to me, and i'd feel kind of weird turning someone onto something that's so special to me. no hero, just the way i like it.

Yeah, isn't that usually the way? People will judge Prince on his image and dismiss him and then when they hear the music it's gameover! the best part was watching his face. when i said 'here, listen to this song [cuing it to darling nikki] at first he was all cocky like 'yeah sure, ok, whatever i'll listen but he's a faggot and a weirdo and i know i'm not gonna like this'. then, after about twenty minutes i noticed him re-winding certain numbers again and again, then he started dodging away from me when i came to get my tunes back. . . finally i just called it a day and let him have the tunes for the rest of the night

Sorry Casper! this is my case as well! Several times during the year when I'm hosting parties, I have to promise to NOT play Prince so people will come! (of course I still sneak it in, but...)

I got one of my friends addicted to 'Gett off'. I played it for her once and that night she downloaded all the different versions of it and talked about that song nostop for a bit. Mostly though I just have my friends listen to Prince's version of HCUDCMA and If I Was Your Girlfriend but they don't really think that Prince is cool enough or something.

Back around 87, I got a good friend into Sign O the Times (since I had it on in the car that entire year practically). He ended up buying the entire catalogue by then end of that year. He's still a big fan to this date.
Other than that, I have gotten people at least interested in him when they come over to my place. After hearing some concerts (like the Avenue, 4 Those of U on Valium, ONAL) people are like "this is real good I can't believe its Prince" or "What happened to him...". I actually did the opposite to my girlfriend. She used to kinda like him before she met me, but now can't stand to listen to him at all since I play his music so much around the house and in my car.

he instantly LOVED the 12" hardcore mix of MyNameIsPrince. also didnt mind 51 Hours & SleepAround ***************************************************************************************

Actually, just last night I was lsitening to Prince with a friend of mine and she was amazed and now wants to write her research paper in her music class on Prince. I guess that kinda counts as making someone a fan.

The only person I managed to get to like Prince even a little was my sister.
My mum liked "Purple Rain" (and only "Purple Rain"!) well before I even knew who Prince was. Since then she's grown fond of "When Doves Cry" and "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", and "Venus de Milo". My friends or others have always said the same thing - "He is gay." ...Dontcha' just pity 'em all! *lol*

You are waaayyy nicer than me Tom. My sister suffered "torture by Prince" when we took a road trip to Las Vegas. To be fair my hubby and I let her put in one of her cd's. That lasted one run through and then back to the shakin music! I'm firmly planted in denial
