It only costs about $50K. Someone should do it. Warner should pay for it. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

No, and Prince would definitely not want one. Lots of things are open to debate but this one is pretty cut-and-dried. Prince wouldn't want it. |

I'd say that's nonsense. Prince said awards didn't matter, but showed up to present them, perform at the shows, and accept them regularly (including the Golden Globes, Grammys, and AMAs in recent years). To say he wouldn't appreciate one, even post-mortem is sorta off base.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

He sure didn't want one pre-mortem so it seems like he wouldn't want one post-mortem.
OT - Am I the first person to ever use the term "pre-mortem"?

ZOMG it turns out "pre-mortem" is a real word but it is NOT the opposite of "post-mortem".

Why we know Prince didn't want a cheesy star on a dirty, meaningless sidewalk:
1 - You have to agree to the "honor".
2 - You have to agree to show up at the unveiling.
3 - You (or someone else) has to pay for it, including permanent upkeep.
4 - He was asked TWICE and turned it down.

He was also asked to release Purple Rain deluxe and didn't. He was also asked to release vault material, and he didn't. Yet he accepted lifetime achievement awards, etc. His argument was uneven, at best.

You think paying for a star is equal to awards from your peers our the industry? There is no less meaningful "awards" than something you have to pay for Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me. |

— He had a chance to get a star before and turned it down. Seems pretty clear that he did not want one. |

— Who asked? He had a contract with WB to put PR remaster and it was held up due to some dispute but I am sure since he had a contract it would have come out at some point. He also said he was not going to put out vault material but someday someone would and that is what we are seeing now. |

You and I agree on something, oh oh While some on here are disagreeing with you. Maybe its more the Alive Prince fans/fams would like to see his star on the sidewalk more than anything so when they go visit they could see it. |

Madonna doesn't have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, either. She made it clear that she doesn't want one. It's just not important to some celebrities. It isn't like some "award" that you get from the Grammys,it's basically a meaningless honor that you (or your fan club, record company, etc) have to pay for.Nothing great about that. |

I like the speech he gave at the Minnesota Music Awards o
he said something like "a while back I wrote a line to a song "I don't care to win awards..." but that was easy because I wasn't up for any..."

I think if fans chipped in and paid for it as a tribute to him, he would be okay with that. I believe it was probably the corporate side of things that often influence and fund a walk of fame star that he tried to rebuff.

Fans did chip in before and he still did not want it. What is so hard about honoring his wishes? |

He's dead. If we honored all of his wishes we'd probably not even have half of what we have right now since 2016. It's not about dishonoring him or ignoring it. It's about business now. It's unrealistic to go through an artist's legacy and keep the warm-fuzzies alive while rebuffing opportunities that could generate income and keep the legacy and estate alive. A star draws attention to them again, awakens interest and, if planned correctly, could help sell the latest project to come or even get people to Minneapolis to tour the Park etc. What's so hard to understand about that?

Nothing just that a star on the walk of fame is not going to do any of the things you just mentioned.
Putting out his music will and he did say someone was going to put it out one day.
What is so hard to understand about that? |

You know what, now that I'm seeing all this other major celebraties getting stars, I'm not so sure not having one isn't a big deal. Maybe there is something to having one that hasn't even been evaluated in these parts. I don't want to have a missed opportunity if there is one to someone having longevity. |
