To me it's an atypical Prince song- full of contradictions:

So the female protoganist wants fame and fortune but thinks she doesn't need love to complete her life. Prince knew even at that young age that all the money, fame, etc. wasn't worth it if you had no love in your life.

I think he meant that by her 7th orgasm that she was falling in love with the provider of said waves and that it was going to mess up her plans of fame and fortune.

he was, but also like the second sheila album and i absolutely loved her third album i thought it was way beyond the other two, i played it in my car for a couple months i liked it that much. It's a lesson really, you need more than great songs to have a hit.

It means that a women can live the glamorous life with or without having a man( boyfriend or husband by her side) The woman can vaildate her ownself.

oh, it's an old notion in love songs but it isn't true, that "life without love is so very lonely" as Smokey sang, and that money without love is nothing, i don't think it's true in terms of how people actually live. prince certainly never put love before business did he? anyway, "she had a problem" falling in love is a problem because it's so disruptive to your life and plans, and on the other side, isn't it things like love, joy, peace that make life meaningful?

I agree, I always felt it was contradictory, but if you replace “lead” with “leave” it all makes perfect sense. How confident are we that it is “lead”? Is there an official lyric sheet? And can it be trusted?

One of the things that I'm finding about Prince demos is that if somebody is playing some cool/special notes in the demo, Prince doesn't hesitate to use it in the final form of a completed song!

Whoever did the sax on the 'Glamorous Life' demo...Prince made sure that they damn near note for note played it the same way on the finished track. Prince, too, as he made sure to include the same keyboard flourishes on the final track.

You would think he'd change things but I guess if he found a good groove demo wise, he kept it. Same goes for The Time song 'Chocolate', with Morris saying whatever Prince said in the demo and Prince basically keeping all of his guitar and keyboard parts for the final version.

Yes, It's the exact same saxophone recording by Larry Williams. The demo isn't much of a demo in the sense that it's what was used on the final record, only with lots of overdubs.

Williams comments on it in Duane's book, (from memory so forgive me if it ain't an exact quote) he kind of came expecting to record something polished, as he was usually asked to do that as a session musician, and Prince just told him to get wild and weird because that's how he wanted it, and Williams had a ball doing it.

Williamb610 you have to read that book if you're interesting in P's creative process.

Sheila was so pretty!! She has aged very well -- she's still gorgeous! She is such an inspiration to so many women, not just musically, but in the sense that she is still doing her thang, and doing it well. It's the best documented work ever about Prince's creative and recording process. It only covers 2 years but hopefully more will come.

Yes it is, I was so suprised and happy that we got words from Williams, David Coleman, Jonathan, and others that had key parts like strings etc

Sheila E has yet to ever talk about the recording process in detail.
