For whatever reason I love the song "Planet Earth" and it is really is soaked with a late 70's mood, and.... I need to reserach this out.. but... something takes me to the slasher film relseased on 1980 "Prom Night" specifically the reveal part where some kid has fallen out a window in a flashback. Christopher Cross used to front a band called Heather Black, and they played the skating rink in my hometown quite often. I remember Cross as a pudgy dude who could sing.

Then I went to college, and Cross went solo. My frat booked him to play one of our parties. But inbetween the booking and the party, his single "Ride Like The Wind" was released went to #2. He sent us a note saying that he'd be unable to make our party, as he was now the hottest singer in America. But he did give us a copy of his album, LOL.

I got to see him perform a couple years ago. He can still hit the high notes! I got to go backstage, and I wanted to tell him "No hard feelings for dumping us back in 1980!" but he didn't receive any visitors.

That 'cheesy musical theater midsection' lol that is what I've always felt about it, and would just blank out until it was over. The 'synth' sounded cheap. But the rest of the song was awesome and give me chills.

I don't think the lyrics are corny though.

Starting to realise I like a lot of yacht rock, Christopher Cross, Styx, Player, Little River Band, Paul Davis, Air Supply, Hall and Oates, Randy Vandewarmer, Ace, Juice Newton (Possibly more country), I just sound tacky I know.

Would you guys count George Benson as Yacht rock, I know he is black and jazz pop, but a lot of white People I know seem to like his music, and it is smooved out like all the rest of Yacht rock, if funkier and for that matter we could add How bout us by Champaign and Just the two of us by Grover Washington. So basically is there room for Black guys on the yacht?

I like it. It's nowhere near as bad as some of his worsts like Purple and Gold or Sticky Like Glue

"Love 2 The 9s" has a beautiful soundscape, great mellow groove and a gorgeous Prince vocal. It's perfect up until the rap interlude hits you like a fucking hammer. Takes a 5 song to a 3.5/4.
