Why did Prince go so long without playing Detroit?

After Musicology in 2004 when he played the Place of Auburn Hills and Joe Louis Arena, Prince didn’t not return to the Detroit area until 2015 for a Hit and Run at the 5000 seat Fox Theater.
Why?
In his early career Detroit was always a frequent and multiple shows. Prince even commented that he was told it’s had been eleven years and he would come back soon at the Hit and Run (unfortunately that never happened)

Why did Detroit dropped in popularity as a tour stop with Prince or it was just over sight?

I think he was concerned about Robocop being the future of law enforcement.

shrug Oh I don't know, maybe he was just trying to give people in places he hadn't already been many numerous times before the chane to see him perform in person. It's highly doubtful that his Piano and a Microphone show would not have made a stop in the D.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

The outside of America view of Detroit is once upon a time it was prosperous Motor City/Motown, Then it was OCP/Robocop, now it's just an utter shithole Syrians wouldn't dare leave their own rubble for. Detroit was maybe lucky P loved/sympathised it so much.

I have wondered the same thing about Prince’s lack of concerts in Philadelphia. I have lived in Philly since August 2010 and he never came to Philly from that point (August 2010) until his death. My understanding is that his final performance in Philadelphia was some time earlier in 2010. It’s not like he was never in the area...he performed in New York City numerous times between August 2010 and April 2016.

It's never been OCP/Robocop. That was a movie. As a matter of fact, many movies have been made right here in Detroit, in recent years.

If Detroit was the shithole the media love making it out to be, those movies would not have been made here. Sure it's had problems, most major cities have, but even that's changing and has been for years. This is what's happening in Detroit now...

As for Prince, his love for Detroit had nothing to do with sympathy. It was his love for the people of Detroit that loved him from the very start of his career and throughout. So I am pretty certain that if Prince had still been on this Earth for the last two years, he'd have come to Detroit with his Piano and a Microphone show.

Lol.

Maybe those ignorant people should actually see Detroit for themselves instead of going based off of exaggerated media talk. It's not much different from any other major city in America, especially those cities that are remembered for their industry.

never been there, all i know is that detroit was his fav city in the mid 80's and they got special privileges and there dj the fabulous mojo got one of the very best and most honest interviews ever from the man. Can't see why he'd avoid the place knowing he had fans.

"Detroit, what's happening?"

After watching 8 mile he was afraid that Detroit was the hub of a parallel universe where instead of being black Purple Rain and funky in Minneapolis, Prince was born white with a crew cut and not able to sing or play a note on even a pianola.

Prince being very protective of his family was shocked to find that former lover Kim Bassinger was actually his mother in this bizarro world.

This was too much for Prince and like Halll and Oates he "just can't go for that" so he had to do the "Detroit Crawl" past the city rather than ending up a literal sexy mother fucker.

I wonder about this too, why he played D less. I heard around the time of the Musicology tour that at the end of his final show at The Palace he was very emotional. I Don't have any inside info about the occasion and no insights whatsoever, but he didn't come around again until his Hit & Run shows with 3rd Eye Girl at the Fox Theatre. I too wish there was more info available because Detroit was always great to him and for him.

He also played a couple of shows at Joe Louis during Musicology. I didn’t attend those, but I recently saw video of it. The entire Symbol stage didn’t fit and the audience was practically in his armpits. Still don’tknow why he didn’t return to the Palace of Auburn Hills.
