I always thought this was a song w/o an album (like "17 Days"). When I ripped 20Ten to my computer, I put "Cause and Effect" as the opening track, and also inserted "Hot Summer (Extended)" before "Laydown" or "Everybody Loves Me". They were two songs that needed a place to sit and for some reason I put them there. They both fit quite well.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think they were both intended tracks for '20Ten' when it was originally conceived as a double album. I seem to recall the album title initially partly referred to it being a double album with ten songs per disc.

Not sure if these songs were intended for '20Ten Deluxe' either?

I think it was mentioned that W2A and F.U.N.K.were to be included as well.C&E would have been a great opener for 20ten.There was an article posted about 20ten Deluxe not too long ago.

Hearing it over and over on the LOL tour was great. One of the shows in Seattle people were singing "Compassion" so loud it was crazy. Plus it has one of my favorite lyrics.... "If you stamp your passport full of regret you have nothing to remember but a lot to forget."

Prince had nothing to do w/ Condensate other than disallowing them using the name The Time. It is an older song. And actually while I thought I read it dated to the 80s, it reminds me very much of "Shake" and Prince's b-side "Girl" (albeit slower in tempo).

I remember them going through the conflict with him over the name and them finally settling on the Original 7.Now that you mention it,Hot Summer is reminiscent of the two.

Was this song any good live? I always thought it had such an exciting intro but then followed up with a tremendoudly boring track, I figure it might be one of those ones like screwdriver that worked a hell of a lot better when he allowed his guitar to go a bit wild.

I think the performance of it at Montreux with 3EG was great! It worked very well live.

I think the song is great lyrically and it's some of his most interesting as well.Sounds like you were lucky enough to attend several shows of the Live Out Loud tour.

Totally agree it rocked at Montreux, one of the highlights of the night3 set list. Sounds like it would have been part of the 20TEN Deluxe release both the sound and lyrically.

Yeah I attended three of them in Seattle. The show that had Dolphin and Colonized Mind (he played Cause and Effect at all four Seattle shows) was my favorite though.

It was fantastic on the 'Hit N Run' tour in London and the extended jam with chanting was something else.

3RDEYEGIRL genuinely transformed many Prince songs in an exciting way and were at their best when Prince had them play raw and hard to smaller audiences. They lost something when keyboards and other elements were added live later for the arena gigs in my opinion, though Prince still seemed revitalised by their presence.

The Time?

"Original recording date"?

No mention of any of this on Pvault and it's the first time I hear any of it.

Could you guys please be a little more specific as to your sources and the infos themselves?

Thx hug

On a sidenote, someone that sounded pretty reliable to me once claimed that at least one song on 20ten was originally tracked in the 80's, but this remains unverified.

Search the Org. One person noted, "I also recall Alan Freed reporting in Impact Magazine that on his tour in the Paisley Park Vault he saw a song with a title written on the tape "Hot Summer" intended for the Time."

Agree, I saw them play it in Manchester Academy in 2014.
Those shows in the small venues with 3EG he definitely seemed revitalised as did a lot of the songs most notably Something In The Water and She’s Always In My Hair

Cool, thanks.

Princevault has missed that.

However, we have absolutely no proof it's the same song. It could have been another, much older song titled HS. Hard to tell.

When was that Impact Magazine article published?

Same as above, a comment on Funkenberry's post also wonders if it could be an entirely different song.

Funken also says his source is Controversy Magazzine, not Impact Magazine.
