Prince Fans upset about JT's SuperBowl Bash at PP

.

The sold-out Feb. 1 Timberlake party comes with a diss history between the two, initiated by Prince back in 2006 when he said of the “Sexyback” singer: “Sexy never left.” Timberlake, responded, in part by making fun of Prince’s short stature at an awards show but has declared himself a fan. He posted a moving Instagram tribute soon after Prince’s death and attended his Hollywood parties. The two never performed or recorded together.

.

“This whole JT thing, it’s a very sad situation to me. Justin was kind of snide about the whole thing with Prince,” Stacy said. “I think this is just a money grab. True Prince fams (what he called his fans) are all about real music played by real musicians, not a JT. I would rather see local musicians from the area. They would sell out, too.”

.

But Freed says he thinks it was just a friendly rivalry.

Thanks for posting Colver. As to JT, I never liked the guy, he comes off as a phony, like a cameleon, you know. Like: "Oh my god, Prince died, everybody's posting somethin', I made fun of his small stature, but now I'm gonna use his death to be in the news for a day."

I don't believe he's a real fan, I don't believe what he wrote about Prince came from his heart. It's like he's wearing the color's everybodys wearing, you know, going with the trends.

What Prince said was meant as a joke, and it wasn't even really insulting, but Justin was disrespectful. Who the fuck is he, to make jokes about Prince's stature? You know what Justin, you're nothing compared to Prince. You got your little fame, your fanbase, but it's nothin' compared to Prince.

You may be taller than Prince was, but his little body had way more talent in it than yours will ever have.

So F U and your stupid bash @ Paisly Park, it's fucked up that they even let you have it. SMDH.

This is such bullshit. It's just pitting people against each other. It's a paper tiger. This sexyback nonsense is 12 years ago. LETITGO.

This "real music by real musicians" is also a misnomer regarding JT. The dude has one of the tightest bands around right now. Horn players, percussionist Terry Santiel from Rose Royce (who has played for many people, including Janet Jackson), Mike Scott and the former John Blackwell from Prince's own New Power Generation is/was in the band (Scott still is). While JT & Timbaland or Pharrell use computers to help create music, there are still people in the studio, playing music and writing songs. It's such an old ass argument. No one is ever going to be Prince. No one can be held to that standard because it's impossible.

If someone like this Stacy person says they don't want to see JT, then don't fucking go. Hell, people didn't like Prince either. You know what - they didn't go to his shows and the world kept spinning. If anyone has seen a JT show, he and the band work their fucking asses off.

There is no logic for someone like JT, who is newer in the industry albeit with early and growing success, had a moment of youthful arrogance (as discussed ad nauseum in another live thread right now).

I don't know where the "money grab" is - is it the party at Paisley Park? Who's grabbing money?? JT had to rent the space - dis a bid'ness. The cover charge certainly doesn't cover the cost of renting a big name facility like that. It's a party, it's related to the Super Bowl - location wise. How anyone tries to misconstrue a moment of serendipity, promotion, and location into some namecalling 3rd-grade bullshit speaks more about the writer than the singers in the article.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I get your points, but still, people are free to state their opinions. And some aren't havin' it. And I am one of them.

I wouldn't say I'm a JT fam but a lot of his tracks are great.

He has proven himself to be a very talented singer, songwriter, musician and producer.

I don't know why people sometimes have to dislike someone just for the sake of it.

blackeye This may happened to Justin Timberlake on Sunday. Lot of us Prince fans do not want him there. He mocked Prince's height. What else was he mocking Prince about?

I didn't like the Prince joke when he said it back then, and I still don't.

Timberlake could never hold a candle to Prince, in anything. Real talk.

Amen! lol

.

I'm still pissed at JT for that crap he said about Prince. Like you said, Prince was only joking and commenting on bringing sexy back. What JT did was way below the belt, imo.

.

I think JT has talent, but he's no Prince. I neither love him nor hate him. Some of his songs got a nice groove you can dance to, but I don't buy his music or attend his concerts.

.

A lot of people are upset about this PP event, and rightfully so. It just looks like a money-grubbing event to promote his new album, plus the SuperBowl coming up.....I just pray to God he's not going to do a Prince Tribute......Prince already did the damn SB, so don't be trying to recreate what Prince did......no, just no!!!! mad

.

If he does that......then, I will totally lose it!! mad

.

Lawd, please help me!! mad

.

Oh, good lord. Who cares? Did Justin Timberlake buy Paisley Park? No. Is he planning to try to live there? No. He paid the rental price and is holding a stinkin' party. Go or don't go, as it pleases you.

Prince is dead - and I would never pay to see anyone else at Paisley Park. But I am not delusional enough to think I have - or should have - ANY say in what happens at Paisley Park now that he's gone.

But he always did have a bunch of entitled, crazy-ass fans. Why would that change just because he's gone?

I am totally shocked how you defend JT. Amazing.

.

Would Prince be promoting JTs album and having him play at PP if he were alive? I think not.

.

I'm sorry you can't understand why a lot of people are upset about this. Sure, maybe JT did some growing up since the sexy comment; but Prince fans don't forgive so easily.

JT made a misstep or 2 early in his career regarding Prince, but he has more than atoned for it over the last few years. Its cool as shit that he was so honored to be in Paisley. Dude could play his new album anywhere he wanted and he chose Paisley. If any JT fan was encouraged to dig into Prince's work because of this for the first time, then even better.

The hate over this is misplaced, shortsighted and just flat out dumb.
