Which Prince song means the most to you and why? Purple rain affects me emotionally everytime I hear it theres specific notes in it that pull at my heart strings however I'll have to give it to pop life as its the first song I heard of his on the radio and thought wow who's that it then made me want to check out the rest of his stuff and man was there a hell of a lot so pop life brought prince into my life. I'm just like everybody else I need love.....and water.

Like you, Poplife was the song that made me realize Prince was something special and caused me want to learn more about him and his music.I guess The Love We Make means the most to me personally since I was listening to it a lot while going through some things and I feel the lyrics reminded me to focus on what was most important.

Purple Rain means the most to me, because it helped me back in 2015 when I was suffering from depression. It was the only Song that helped going through all this.

All My Dreams has always meant a great deal to me. I guess it helps that it is such a phenomenal piece of music and up there with the best thing The Revolution ever did. But on a personal level, I really connect to the overarching theme, "no childs a failure until the blue sailboat sails him away from his dreams." These words mean an awful lot to me, as I came from a family who pretty much scoffed at the idea of having "dreams". I was always made to feel like I couldn't share my dreams or goals with my parents, to them life was about getting a well-paid job where I could work my way up the ladder and buy my own house and I was very much made to feel as if that was all that mattered in life and obtaining those things would be the only way to gain their approval/make them proud. Take Me With U. I saw the movie Purple Rain back in '84. I was 10 turning 11 in August. After seeing that Apollonia was being driven on the back of Prince's motorcycle. I always wanted ride on Prince's motorcylce; and be driven to those places that Prince took Apollonia.

Sometimes it snows in April. This means a huge amount to me but its very rare that I bring myself listen to it. The Parade album was released a few weeks before my 18th birthday. My father was very ill at the time and I remember being told there was no hope of a recovery. It was the 2nd week of April and it snowed. Very ironic that this song was recorded 21st April.

Good question, but impossible to answer. Another Lonely Christmas is a true story for me, but that doesn't mean the song means more to me than any other. I love 1999 because it just sums up the zeitgeist of the early 1980s perfectly- but I was only 11 years old at the time, so I sort of felt it, but was too young to really understand what the Cold War was all about. My first Prince album was Lovesexy and AnnaStesia was incredible. The God Is Love chant was really impressive even though I was moving away from the Church at the time. Does any of this make any sense??

Toss up between How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore? and Soul Sanctuary. HCYDCMA because it was the first Prince song that made me realize that this little guy had way more going on musically than the dance music (1999 & Controversy) that I knew him from. First time I heard HCYDCMA (way back in the early 80's!) I had chills and goosebumps! How many of us hadn't felt the feelings Prince was singing about on that song? Soul Sanctuary just because it is the most beautiful love song ever.

Purple Rain. I physically feel it when I listen to it. I don't believe it is about the end of the world & the color of the sky...I believe the Purple Rain is Prince's Love that he wanted to share. He only wanted to see whomever the song is for to be happy with his love, for it to be enough. As he performed it many times over the years I think he wanted to see his 'fam' laughing in the Purple Rain. Plus, it is the last song he ever sang in concert so it is special to me for that reason also. [Edited 2/2/18 7:40am]

Little Red Corvette, not too many songs actually changed my life, this one would be the one that started me on the path to supposing I wanted to be a musician.

The Love We Make. It’s my favorite track on Emancipation and the last song I saw Prince perform live. It also is multi-layered musically and lyrically. Just one of Prince’s best. No More Haters on the Internet.

Mine would be Purple Rain also. Not Only does it symbolize my introduction to Prince, but it's such an intricate and emotional ballad. It derives a much more significant overtone than the standard love song. I agree with your thoughts about the song RJP1205 - Though I'll take it a step further and say I believe wholeheartedly that the song was inspired by his relationship with Denise Matthews, which ended around the timeframe. The lyrics are so personal, but yet so revealing- Pointing directly to their final chapter.

Holy buttwipe that is a hard question. . Probably “Darling Nikki” because it is where I first learned what “masturbation” is. Talk about life-changing information. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

When Doves Cry because it was the first Prince song I listened to and I loved the music and the lyrics and it remains one of my favorite songs. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

. I was literally unfamiliar with that particular practice at the age I was when I heard the song. Had to ask my mom what the word meant. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Great question, OP. But, I don't think I can answer this any better than I could answer what is my favorite Prince song. I'd probably change my answer to either of those questions every time I'm asked. But I can say that from the moment I saw Little Red Corvette on MTV in '83, I knew I would be a Prince fanatic for life! I can't even count how many times a day I tuned to MTV to catch Little Red Corvette throughout the summer of '83. (Back when cable was mostly basic except the "rich" folks that had a (read: ONE) premium channel.)
