I wouldn't say it's "one of Prince's worst songs", but, it's for sure my least favorite on PR. I could do without ever hearing the album version again. Also the TMWU/Raspberry Beret live medley... I hate that.

On Apollonia's album it would have been a highlight. On Purple Rain it's the low point and it's inclusion is the reason for LGC being cut down. Just sayin'...

I do like the live version from the music video.

It's the song I like least from Purple Rain. And I didn't like the pairing with Raspberry Beret most of the time in concert--but that was at least in part because he didn't seem to really commit to either song most of the time. It would have maybe seemed stronger on Apollonia 6, but it wouldn't have been the best track on there, either. Might have been the worst?? Or at least, the least interesting (in that he did similar songs that were just as good or better later in his career).

I'm back to clarify one thing--when I say "Might have been the worst?" I'm talking only about on Purple Rain or Apollonia 6--there were weaker songs before and would be weaker songs later. Oh, and Raspberry Beret isn't weak at all--just the pairing and performances with Take Me With U rarely amounted to much.

Young fans liking the edgier side of Prince more decided to dislike the song back in the day - and never grew out of their pubescent impressions.

My favourite song from the Purple Rain album. On the original album it said - duet with Apollonia, but on the recent deluxe edition it said - performed by Prince and The Revolution. Apples name was taken off the song! If I was her I would be hurt by this snub.

I love Apples but, those two singing always made me feel some kind of way. Like how did those vocals make the final cut? But I don't know it's still catchy I guess.

I wish they'd have kept it on the A6 album to increase sales on that album. Unfortunately, if they had kept it on there, he probably wouldn't have added Blue Limousine which is a great song. Removing Take Me With U (and then Manic Monday) really cut into the sales potential for the A6 album.

If you listen to "Take Me With U" on headphones, you can hear Prince's "robot" voice very clearly in the last verse. His "robot" voice is a deep voice he generally buries in harmony mixes. It's like a monotone.

I can hear it most plainly on the lines "Drive me crazy, drive me all night, just don't break up the connection".

You can also hear that voice a lot if you listen closely to "Erotic City".
