Prince’s Greatest Musical Gift: His Voice As a musician and song writer Prince was beyond gifted in an embarrassing number of ways: As a melodist, as a crafter of rhythm, I’m his use of dynamics and drama, as a guitarist and pianist and multi-instrumentalist... But ONE gift reigns above all the others... His remarkable, strong, resident, pitch-perfect, flawless VOICE. A voice full of character, strength, beauty, and power. In falsetto, as a tenor, or a baritone...didn’t matter. And it never wavered despite age. He possessed this magnificent voice till the day he passed. | |

He didn't have the loudest voice in the world and wasnt always belting out big loud long notes, but he still had a varied complex voice--sometimes it was more funky than pretty, sometimes it was beautiful, sometimes it was a deep croon, sometimes it was a bell-like falsetto, sometimes it was a glorious screechy, impassioned yell. His voice had personality and variation and stayed strong. i was just watching his Mancester performance of the song The Ride, he never played or sang it better. He shreds the guitar and then hands the guitar to his tech and sings in a cool, strong, charismatic bluesy deep croon. Love P.
