The Get Down / Purple Rain This is one of those 'Hey, isn't this song a bit like that song' threads.
i just heard 'The Get Down' from the recent Second Coming boot (rehearsal). Nothing in the discussion on that release made this connection: http://prince.org/msg/7/449528
But the chords, the feel, the melody, the echo vocals and maybe even some of the lyrics sounds quite a lot like Purple Rain to me.
Do we have a prototype here, one year before the legendary First Av recording in August 1983? Someone on this board http://prince.org/msg/7/450639 suggests it is not in the Tudahl book.

While I wouldn't go as far as connecting it with 'Purple Rain' (the song or project, other than Lisa riffing on her OBXa with a similar patch), there is a fair likelihood that this is a jam/rehearsal performance for an as-yet undocumented 1983 studio recording. . [Edited 1/25/18 5:24am] | |
