What do you think of The Truth album?

I really love it the fact for the most part its just acoustic guitar and vocal really shows what a beautiful voice prince had circle of armour is one of my all time favourite prince songs. I would have liked to have seen him do more albums like this I always thought it would have been really intesting to listen to an acoustic version of one of his more succesful albums purple rain sign of the times etc like the beatles did with let it be naked.

I'm just like everybody else I need love.....and water.

The Truth is a nice set, it's a real pity that it's probably unknown to the wider public.I hope that the estate are able to get this album reissued, it deserves to be be heard by more people. I wonder how many of us were listening to it from torrents we've downloaded rather than having the chance to actually buy it.

I like it. Actually purchased the Crystal Ball set with The Truth and Kamasutra. As close to 'Unplugged' as we ever got, except for the Musicology acoustic set.

Dionne is sheer brilliance and does not get enough love on the Org.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think it' really bad. I can't even listen to it. I'm not trying to stir up any controversy, I just don't like it. The guitar sounds like a toy to me and the lyrics do not do it for me. I have a few friends that I respect and they really like it, but for some reason I can't get into it at all. Parts of it sounds promising, but half-baked to me. I really want to like it. In principle an acoustic guitar album by Prince sounds like the best idea in the world. The reality just didn't work for me. Perhaps my expectations were too high or just completely different. It's just an opinion, however. No hate, it just doesn't work for me and I really wish it did.

I enjoy it, but the potential does seem a bit squandered. I especially love the title track and Don't Play Me, but as a whole it's not as strong as what it could be. You're right about the sound of the guitar, it does sound like a toy. I much prefer the sound of the acoustic guitar on the live album he Oui Can Love with Andy Allo.

Love that 1. Love the whole thing. Played it every day for a month or 2 after I got w/ Crystal Ball (no Kamasutra version). Good stuff, might bust it out later music.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Always loved it. Shame it never got its own release and was bundled with CB. I think it would have done well critically.
Circle Of Amour and Man In A Uniform are highlights for me.
Comeback is probably his most personal and touching song.

Love it! Bought the CD single of The Truth / Don't Play Me from 1-800-New-Funk about a year before the Crystal Ball release, which I also ordered from New-Funk, but ended up buying it at BestBuy before my "pre-order" arrived. Still have all of the above and The Truth album is the jewel of the set.

Animal kingdom is my worst track on the album "put your brothers and sisters in the sea" but I like the rest.

It is superb. I was underwhelmed back in 1997 when I heard it...it was not melodic enough for me. i think i was hoping and expecting to hear stripped down versions of pop stuff. However, he chose to do a challenging record and it is his brilliance back then that is rewarding now. All these years later (21), i'm amazed at the depth of some of these songs. I feel the same about his Piano One Nite Alone album. I have put a single album together drawing from the Truth, One Nite and Xpectation. It is incredible what he could do ...

I love the ticking clock in the background. Prince saying that everyone has a right to lie. Everyone has a right to lie. But if only people would tell the truth; then we can exact bank accounts. I know that I am giving a tid bit of what the song is all about. In my opinion The Truth, is someone's time up. If you you tell me the truth. Then I might forgive you. But! If you keep hiding what I already know. Then leave and be well. crysball

That one and Man In a Uniform with all the weird sounds on it (acoustic? with all those sound effects?) and One Of Your Tears with that embarrasing line about the used condom are among the worst things he ever did. The rest of the album is fine, especially Fascination and Welcome 2 the Dawn. Comeback is a really emotional song about one of (if not the) most traumatic experiences in his life. The title track is something we don't hear very often: Prince the blues man. So it has a few low points, but all in all, it's a nice little album.

I could never get into it either. There isn't a Prince album I enjoy less.

I love it and currently have a burned copy from Tidal in my car. There are some weak spots in it...but I find it to be so experimental and stripped down that I even respect the weaker songs. I love Don't Play me, One of your tears (even the condom line because its honest and sounds like something that could have happened to him) , the other side of the pillow, Dionne, Comeback, and the truth, and I like third Eye, Circle of Amour, and Welcome to the Dawn, have extremely mixed feelings about Fascination (seems overkill and out of place), and enjoy Man in a Uniform due to his singing (even though the song is just silly filler.) Flat out dislike Animal Kingdom.

I also have a burned version in my car...smile

noit from Tidal from my own cd though..

I love third eye.....LOVE Truth especially where his voice breaks when he sings "no Muther effing piece of Pie"

Love how he uses the Typical Military trumpets or whatever they are in Man in Uniform...its so NAFF

that its cool..smile

also flat out dislike Animal Kingdom...

Overall I think The Truth is a stand alone album..and its the one I let Purple Rainers Listen to

to give them a bit of a jolt...

Love this album, except for AK, although that song does have some redeeming parts that I like. But as for the album as a whole, I very much enjoy it.
