We will never know.

But I suppose it's better not to know when our time comes, so we can live our lives to the fullest and not dread the final moments.

It's hard to say because we don't really know what Prince was thinking or feeling. We all act differently when we are out in a public place and while someone may appear to be happy, they could be very sad on the inside. Looks can be deceiving. In my opinion, I don't think Prince was ready or preparing to leave this earth; he didn't speak about dying, so maybe he just put it out of his head and was just going to live his life to it's fullest? We may never know.

I think Prince knew.I was listening to the piano and microphone tour last night and he was reflecting on his life in between songs.Prince always looked forward. He never liked to talk about the past.So something had to be up.he was talking about lucid dreams and loving to sleep so he could see his friends that have passed away in his lucid dreams

Perhaps, but then again, all of what you said above comes along with maturity. The older you get, the more you start to reflect on your past and your life. It's very natural to do so. I speak from experience, because I'm just a few years younger than Prince's generation.

.

I think Prince was showing us his softer side and maybe he felt like he was really connecting with himself and his fans, and starting to slow down and enjoy life more.

.

Regarding his lucid dreams; he was up (supposedly) for 5 days before he passed. If he was indeed awake for several days on-end; he was not thinking clearly. The effects of no sleep is very detrimental to one's health. It was very odd for him to make that statement, given that he always thought that sleep was a waste of time, and many people in his circle said that he would not sleep or forget to eat and drink.

The Matrix movie is about what is real and what is perceived to be real. Me thinks Prince faked his death. It was strictly a business move. Prince is known for creating aliases, changing his names, and re invention. Would it be that much of a stretch if he just walked away from the artist?

Woo, someone who thinks outside the box! I like that, LOL lol

Prince loved the Matrix! That was one of his favorite movies. I would not rule out Prince doing something like that, because he was very savvy. There is a Prince Death Hoax site too, I'm sure you are aware of. There are a lot of people who believe Prince faked his death. He could be living somewhere on an isolated tropical island for all we know!

He just accidentally stepped into the trap of drug dependancy/addiction. And really an accident with that fentanyl. But he was in physical pain and so easy for your body to get dependent on the chemicals in the meds. But of course he should still be here and i'm sad often that he's not.

I agree. His face is really thin. The smile line is really deep and his cheek is thinner, as is his jawline. The smile gives it away.

In general, you can sorta tell when someone is on a lot of medication. They either get, what we call, medical bloat where they puff up as a side effect of the medication, or their skin & complexion change. They don't necessarily break out; rather their skin can get dry, sallow, gaunt, skin is flaccid and loses its natural elasticity. Meds are a bitch on anyone's body, inside and often out.

Back to Prince, his look really changed since the orange sherbet outfit appearance (possibly before). The gaunt look, loss of weight, pale complexion (lack of color gradient in his face), the old looking skin (old for Prince), I remember just being sorta embarrassed for him when he came out that time. Nothing about him looked right. And while he never had great teeth, they weren't rachet either. They seemed to almost be gaping in some ways.

The photo in question is a terrible example.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

If you watch the whole clip, Prince does seem rather fragile but oddly happy.. almost like watching a game and being honored was a reprieve from something..

I never thought the big fro was a good look on him. Kim Berry said she didn’t like it either. At that Grammy awards appearance it looked like he wasn’t wearing much makeup at all.

I wonder how much the big fro attributes to that. I didn’t think it was a good look. The way he had his hair in 2012 or even the baby fro looked better than this.

eek I beg to differ! Prince's teeth were perfect imo, plus they were his, unlike many 'fake' looking artists.

That said, he certainly looked weaker towards the end, but the trouble is that so many celebrities resort to plastic surgery even from an early age that when one does not, they kind of stand out like a sore thumb. Prince was always himself, did not do anything to change his face other than a little touch of foundation here and there and some eyeliner (I saw him very very close!). In fact, he seemed more relaxed and seemed to have reached an even higher level of self-acceptance in his last year so I wouldn't be surprised if he had also dropped the make up too, plus for heavens sake, he was 57!

As for the OP's question, I would say yes, he would probably still smile, because his happiness came from within and he knew our bodies are just vessels for the soul, therefore not meant to last forever... So he was probably ok with whatever was going on healthwise, even though not necessarily pain-free.

It seems like whatever narrative you believe you'll find the information that fits. Tyka said Prince knew something was wrong. When she got the call he'd passed she wasn't shocked and all that. This may be true but how many people have similar feelings about friends or loved ones that never come to fruition.

While we pour over his last words and performances looking for indicators into his state of mind, let's remember Prince often spoke in a cryptic and ethereal manner. In the aftermath of his death we'll seize on a certain comment and say look.

There are some that suggested Prince was preparing for the end while others said he had tours and other projects slated for the future.

She said she got an e-mail with a picture and a song. She said this e-mail made her realize he was dying. Those were exact words. Some form of communication came from him to her that made her think he was going to die. It was not a feeling or a guess.

He could have been ill and did not have optimistic that things would not improve and continued on with his business. I wonder how many of you have ever had to deal with illness that can drag on and have prognois that can change at a moments notice?

Just wanted to say that even though people know their time is limited they do still continue making plans because it's not known exactly when you are done here. I've seen that used as a reason why he couldn't have been ill, that he wasn't planning on "going anywhere", but that isn't a very valid reason to assume that. We all continue to make plans because we don't know for sure when our time is up.

Once again she said the e-mail had a picture and a song attached. Don't you think that might have had some specific information in it. The preparation was based on what was in the e-mail. She was very clear about receiving information via this e-mail.

True, but Prince was always extremely thin. As you age, you start to lose muscle-mass and your skin is not as plump as it used to be. This picture below is from 1995.....Now, just imagine that body at age 57.
