NEWS and Xpectation are both instrumental albums... so no Bible-thumping there. Actually there's not a whole lot on the other two albums, either, really--a little bit, but most of that during that period he saved for the Rainbow Children album. I like quite a few of the tracks, but I have a hard time evaluating Slaughterhouse and Chocolate Invasion as albums (and I can't even remember right now which tracks showed up on which album), since most of the time I listened to the individual tracks as separate pieces as they were released over the course of the NPGMC. Some people really don't like the sound of these tracks, but I think every fan should at least hear them a few times.

anything prince officially released is worth listening to in my opinion. before he died there were a lot of haters on here, they've changed their tune but Prince always put out good albums in my opinion. I never got into his triple release minneapolis/bria valente/lotus flower set but outside of that, almost everything I've liked or loved.

Actually a great many of them did more than changing their tune: they hardly come here anymore. That suggests, if nothing else, that their main purpose was to bitch about Prince in the hope he'd read their posts and get hurt, or maybe that one day he'd think 'oh, those folks don't like my music anymore, I'm gonna make music they like again", as if he could possibly do any such thing falloff

Those people bitching and creating the weekly "Prince is over and done" thread were unintelligent, pathetic, bitter people. We're better off without them nod

funny thing about prince is that every single release has some fans saying he's lost and others saying it's his best in years. I never go that far, I liked plenty of the tunes, the bria cd was horrible though, i didn't even bother downloading it to my full prince collection on my phone.

There's about one song that mentions the Bible on 'Slaughterhouse' and that's it.But then again 'Props 'n Pounds' is hardly a conventional Christian tune as you will find if you 'bother' listening to it.

'Chocolate Invasion' arguably has the strongest tracks. Any album that has a song like'When Eye Lay My Hands On U'on it is naturally worthy of attention.

'XPECTATION' is my personal favourite instrumental album by Prince and features violin by Vanessa Mae.

Don't waste your time on news. North is okay. But ehh

Slaughterhouse: NORTHSIDE very funky. Peace is good. Not a good album. but has 2 decent tracks.

Chocolate. Much better than the horrendous slaughterhouse: Supercute is very catchy. Underneath the cream is fantastic. When eye lay my hands is one you should know and was performed often. rest of the album is pretty subpar to downright horrible by the time you get to vavoom.

XPECTATION! One of my favorite albums. The tunes are pretty catchy. But they aren't something i listen to when i want to listen to Prince. When i want to study on the train and i want some good backround music or just to relax they are perfect!

Verdict: Northside, Peace, When eye, Supercute, and underneath the cream.

Honestly Underneath is the only standout .

Give xpectation a listen its one of his best works but don't listen to it to listen to it. Just play it in the backround or something.

don't waste your time with people telling you anything prince did was not worth listening too, check it out for yourself, if you don't like it then ok but Prince, for me, was always worth listening to. Some of my favorite stuff is stuff no one talks about. I was jamming to hit n' run last night, to me it has the air of a last stand, like the beatles let it be. good stuff.

If you like instrumental jams that go on forever, then the first two are worth checking out. If you like Prince's funky tunes, then the other two are worth checking out. But none of them are going to make you go:"Wow! I never heard anything like this before!!!" Those days were long gone...

Yes!

TCI and TSH have some decent tracks!

TCI one of my top 10 prince albums actually

JUDAS SMILE one of my all time favourites

U MAKE MY SUNSHINE another of my all time favourites

WHEN EYE LAY MY HANDS ON U quite a sexual song

SUPERCUTE think this one is quote popular on the org

TSH -

THE DAISY CHAIN - Love this track

SILICON I always liked this

HYPNOPARADISE - These two albums came out when I was finishing school, I used to like this track and HIGH off the chocolate invasion, but no so much now

NEWS I find relaxing to do work to - this album excited me at the time as it came as a physical copy

XPECTATION I personally never gelled with this album but hey the track names were clever

Can I suggest you locate SST a lovely track he did for charity at this time - be sure to play it back to back with its sister BRAND NEW ORLEANS

'When Eye Lay My Hands On U' is probably the exception - it remains pretty unique in terms of sound and style. And 'Xpectation' is given a new flavour that none of Prince's other instrumental albums have due to the presence of Mae's violin.

Considering Prince isn’t with us anymore, any thing he’s released is worth listening to. It’s all personal opinion. What someone dislikes you may love and vice versa.

Fair enough. I actually like Bria's CD, so once again, one person's gem is another person's turd. wink

Absolutely. My favorite is Xpectation. I've pide-piped a couple new Prince fans when I played that CD for them to hear.

Go for it!

I'm not a completist. I can't see the point in buying/owning music i would never listen to. I signed up for Tidal so i could listen to those more obscure records first before making a decision to purchase them, rather than just going out and buying everything with his name on it and disliking it. I pretty much passed on everything from Chaos and Disorder to Musicology.

emancipation, the gold exp.,, nothing good there? Musicology was a fine Prince album in my book but a lot of people were plain underwhelmed by it, just like every release since his "golden period".

It's not the pioint about be or not to be a completist, its about the fact that you are not a hardcore fan - that's why. Everything that was officialy released by man itself, is a main intrest for any true fan. One of the those obscure records was album 'Come'. Before i started getting into his world, 'Come' was at the bottom in popularity and got some awful reviews. But damn, they were wrong. That album have on of the best Prince's song in the 90's - title track Come.

I would say DO NOT BUY them! (unless they are on iTunes or Amazon)

"Xpectatiuon","The Slaughter House" , and "The Chocolate Invasion" (as well as C-Note) were NEVER put on CD. All CDs sold as "rare" are Bootlegs, counterfeits! (which is okay as long as you know what you are getting)

I mean you can buy them but they are worth $5 to $10... MAX.

As for N.E.W.S. it is good but you will pay too much for it...

I was until 2008 or 2009... then I slacked off and I needed to replace many of my cds... I never was too careful with them! But I was waiting until the remasters were made... then it was too late.

I do have most of the albums (some not listenable) but I have most of his released stuff archived--mostly in MP3 format. (I put 6 or 7 CDs on one CDR and I have about 5 CDs so 35ish of his albums (as well as a few with outtakes and alts and extendeds) at the ready...but now that I think about it they need to be re-burnt.

So I have most of his stuff (I am always leery of anyone that says they have everything as there are some obscure songs that I am sure I missed.
