Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony and Prince I was listening to SiriusXM Symphony Hall yesterday, and Yannik Nezet-Sequin (conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra) said something that will resonate with some of us. He hopes that Schubert's Symphony No. 8 - popularly known as the "unfinished" symphony - would never be finished by anyone else. He said that geniuses like Schubert (and, presumably, Prince) know deep down when their work is finished. Schubert's unfinished is of a sense of eternity that's in that music and because of that reason, we should not try necessarily to compensate by completing it and finding our own answer to this unanswered question. If Prince took certain songs as far as he was able, why would anyone else presume to think they could "finish" them better than he? https://www.facebook.com/...381767188/ We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. As with many unfinished symphonic works (perhaps most notably, Beethoven's and Mahler's 10th Symphonies), there are completions of Schubert's 'Unfinished' Symphony that have been attempted and performed. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Yes, that's a fair point. It's effectively fan fiction when you start adding to it. But what are the chances of them actually releasing vault recordings as is? I don't personally have anything against them adding to a song or editing tracks or "completing" based on notes he left or whatever way they want to spin it as long as they also release the tracks as Prince left them, but i'm not optimistic.

I do no want existing Prince music “finished.” I only want to get in Prince’s creative head. I do enjoy listening to and deconstructing some of the covers and interpretations that have been done over the years. This recent version of Calhoun Square done by some of the best contemporary jazz artists is completely smokin’ https://m.youtube.com/wat...8F-tS8iF6c

And it has a harpejji in it! I've been looking up a bunch of videos with these things in them. I wonder if Prince ever messed with one--I know Stevie uses one sometimes in concerts.
