Clarification on the song "Pickle"

I've been asked this recently and I've decided to try to explain this the easiest way possible. The first piece of music titled "Pickle" is the whimsical track with Prince saying "Tickle My Pickle". That was the first idea. Now, later. Lets say 88-91. Prince aborts the first Madhouse 24 and basically gaves Eric free reign over the project. Now the instumental titled "24" thats appears on Fantasia as the last track on disc 2. Was for a time known as "24" and referred to as such in-house. That doesn't mean had they proceeded further with the track ( in the lines of releasing it) they would've added maybe some overdubs and re-titled the song. Thats probably the easiest way I can explain that.

So, 24 on Fantasia is Pickle. Is the song Pickle with the Are You My Baby backing track definitively fake?

Yes, but dont over think it. Thats the original "Pickle". Everything else is a different piece of music with that name.

Wait wait wait, you have me confused here. Let me try to clarify:

.

2 tracks are circulating:

- The Are You My Baby Tickle

- The 24 Tickle

.

Based on what Princevault knows, the track titled Pickle was recorded in June 88, never worked on by Eric and only one version exists (though it's possible that Prince reworked it at some point for the original configuration of Madhouse 24 before discarding it when the album was completed in December 88).

In July 89, it was offered to Eric for what would become 26/Times Squared, but Eric chose not to work on it at all.

It would make sense to assume that this recording was Tickle/24 but it's not verified since Princevaut doesn't give length for outtakes. Eric definitely doesn't play on Tickle/24 but it absolutely sounds that something originally recorded for the aborted 24 album.

.

I also remember you saying clearly that Pickle/Are You My Baby was NOT a fake at the time.

.

So if I understand you correctly:

- There exists a vocal version of Tickle/24 PLUS the instrumental version that we have

and

- Tickle/Are You My Baby is finally a fake?

No it's not. It's a totally different piece of music and idea. They might of labeled as such for a hot minute. Naming instrumental music is really tough.

Okay, I thought I understood this before, but Big Chick seems to have given two different answers to the same question (though I think he actually answered two different parts of the same post, but I'm not sure what his answers mean). I think... maybe... that he's saying that Pickle is the Tickle My Pickle (Are You My Baby) thing, stupid slowed down voice. And that the instrumental sometimes booted as 24 may have sometime been called Pickle (or may not have).

Or maybe that's not what he's saying at all.

The edits are because I apparently can't type the word "two" correctly.

Your totally right. The only song that's named "Pickle" is the "are you my baby" with Prince saying "Tickle My Pickle". It was a joke song and he did it in a day. The track thaat was an 89 piece of music that was know as 24 is a Prince solo effort. Maybe for a day or week it might of been known as "Pickle" just to identify it. Eric really couldn't work with that and if you pay close attention there is no Sax or flute on the track. The only thing Eric could've done with that was play the flute. That instrumental is cool as it is but it wouldn't really have an impact on an album. Its as simple as that. After all you guys do realize that this was a business. I'll talk to Eric about this when I see him. He's a real straight shooter.

Don't over think it.

I also will ask Wendy(who is really super cool and especially with the bizare questions) so its quite possible Prince kicked W&L the music and wanted to be uncredited.

Thank you. Wendy's answer would definetly close the debate about Tickle My Pickle I think.

It sure would. But on the backend, If Prince did them the music it kinda diminshes the talent. And W& L are super talented. She may answer that or not.
