I don't follow the Iron Mountain and Estate discussion but if there's an anwser to whether digitalization has begun, it'll be there. As for a complete inventory, I think you do not realize the amount of material. Granted not too much has been lost we're talking about: Dozens of versions of thousands of studio songs. Every rehearsal ever recorded, probably thousands of hours. Every live show ever recorded, probably most of them. + all the music and live videos. And it's likely a lot isn't properly labeled, meaning they may need to figure out what's what in a lot of cases. It's going to take years to sort it all out. I believe it would be a nice gesture from the estate, in terms of music history, to communicate the results of an inventory, but we're taking about a list that'd be a thousand pages long, and I somehow doubt it'll happen anytime soon. Repost your thread in 2028. Maybe then? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

We all are telepathic Sit in silence and ask prince whats in the vault...he speaks to lots of people. His close people dream about him. His spiritual presence is eternal No need for judgment or reaction. Go, do, experience and report your findings.

I don't need telepathy. I'm just asking who you are (or, more precisely, how come you got to chat with Prince). A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

According to Sade she never did a collab with Prince. So I think your Prince 'telepathy' antenna are off.

Prince has been known to make up shit, so he might have said it and lied. I'm not sure but I think it was the Liptick Alley girl who told the story of Sade spending some time at Pailsey, but unable to confirm whether anything was recorded? Perhaps he wrote music intending to record with her and never did. We will see...in the meantime you will not shut down my confidence or faith. Thanks for keeping me in check, I'm glad to improve

There's already too much bullshit information on here regarding vault material and we don't need more... Next time you pretend to have some information from Prince by way of pseudoscience then please keep that to yourself, we only want facts regarding vault material not fantasies to get attention and clog this forum... re: Miles - Craig Rice said at the PRN Alumni event in Minneapolis in September (2017) that he's heard recordings of a Miles/Prince collaboration and it was the top of his wish list for what should be released. He didn't go into details, but it sounded as if there might be an album's worth.
I'm aware that there are various stories about this, but I thought I'd put this out there. I think there are videos circulating from the event - it was at the Capri Theater.

. They are NOT. Else a catalog etc would exist and no news about damaged tapes would come out when the tapes were moved to the Iron Mountsain facility as the old analog tapes would be less important when high resolution digital copies exist.
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Wow, indeed! But let's not get too excited. Nobody in the Prince/Miles camps has been able to confirm that any recording session took place with Prince and Miles both present in the studio, or even with Miles overdubbing something by Prince after 1988. So far, we only have: 1) the 3 different versions of "Can I Play With U?" 2) the live performance at Paisley Park on December 31, 1987 3) Miles overdubbing "Sticky Wicked" in 1988 4) Miles playing "Movie Star" live in concert in 1988 (basically a cover) 5) Prince using samples from Miles (maybe from "Can I Play With U?") to record "Funky" in 1989 (no original input from Miles?) 6) Miles playing his own versions of Madhouse's 17/18/19/20 live in concerts in 1991 (again, basically covering those songs) 7) Miles recording his own versions of Madhouse's 17/19/20 in a studio in Germany in 1991 (basically covering them live in the studio with his band) 8) Eric Leeds (and Prince?) recording a new version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" for Miles in 1991 (did Miles have the time to do any overdubs for this?). . Am I missing anything? . It's possible that Miles and Prince did other recordings together, but that means that Alan Leeds, Eric Leeds, Susan Rogers and many others didn't know anything about it. Now Craig Rice was present around 1989-90, so maybe he knows something about it and never said anything until 2017. It's possible. I hope it's the case. . LittleProfessor: I haven't been able to locate any video of the event. Let me know if you have any pointer.

I forgot which interview it was, somewhere in 1996-98 when he did a lot of them, but Prince did say:" no one has heard the stuff I did with Miles" and that the time wasn't right for the recordings to come out..

http://princetext.tripod.com/i_gw98.html . "I've actually recorded some indescribable music with Miles Davis -- long improvisations that I will release at some point. But again, I want to wait until the spirit moves me, you know. Bring those recordings to the public when it feels right. Like release it on his birthday or his death day, when Miles was released from the circle of life and death." . Those "long improvisations" might exist or not. Who knows? Maybe he was talking about Funky-like recordings based on previously existing recordings, with no Miles Davis involvement. You never know, with Prince.

It is clear that these recordings are Jam-Sessions.....as Prince Did a lot with other Artist = Lenny Kravitz for example....big doubts that Proper finalised Studio Trax does exist in the Vault !
My 2 cents | |

Besides if those recordings exist they may not be as mindblowing as we'd think: I have remarked in the past that 2 formidable talents collaborating doesn't necessarily make formidable results (see the Laswell/Sakamoto or Laswell/Hosono collabs for example). But still, that'd be good news if P hadn't bullshitted us about this in that 90s interview. Ever since the VAULT was created all of the contents was kept a huge secret. It didn't want to go out to the public just yet. A few years ago I saw this clip where this guy goes into the VAULT at Paisley part (in 1993) link: https://www.youtube.com/w...QkDE3Mln0. There is literally so much in there and that was only in 93'. There's rumored to be over a thousand albums in there. ONE HARD WORKER.

More like a thousand tracks. If there's a dozen completed, unreleased, full albums in it - not counting early configurations of existing releases, we'll be lucky. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

You don't think 1000 sounds a little low? Whilst it's hard to know exactly what is in there it's true that Prince was one hard working guy, always recording in the studio but didn't he often blur the lines between studio work and live concert recording? He was said to tape every show he played and every session so I'd imagine that there is tons of stuff there that would be ready to go out fairly easily as straight live in concert albums. I'm sure that they fairly easily put out a string of live albums featuring his various tours, and if we're counting live recordings then the must be a massive number of those in the vault. As said above if you look at what the vault contained in 1993 after he'd been a recording artist for what, 16 years, and then you think that from after that he had over twenty years to add to it I bet there are a ridiculous amount of tracks and albums in there.

I was talking of unreleased studio material only. 1000 is a gross estimate, it's really hard to quantify. Could be less, could be mire, also depends if you count all the alternate mixes or not. But no, there aren't 1000 completed studio albums, that much is certain. Maybe Prince compiled a couple of dozens as a hobbie for all we know, but it can't possibly be much more than that. You are right, and I cannot say that I'm impressed by "Can I Play With U" and Miles' solo at the Paisley Park concert. Miles' cover of "17 (Penetration)" was fun, though, and I love "Sticky Wicked". . They could have done something absolutely great together. But probably didn't.
