Why has Prince never worked with James Brown? It is obvious that JB was one of Prince's favorite artists, but why have never worked together on anything?

They did.
Prince remixed JB's duet with Aretha Franklin. But when it comes to working in the studio. Maybe they did, but Prince is sitting on it, like the MD stash. And I also think they are both in possession of very big ego's. They'ld be fighting over bass thingies in no time.

They may have hooked up, the question is why weren't they as tight as P & Larry. Maybe P wasn't down with the whole Angel Dust thing (funny how he went for the JW thing though)
What about Bootsy? Larry & Bootsy have hooked up, Why not Prince & Bootsy? Xperience the Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com/

Prince offered the song 'Chocolate' to James Brown, but he turned it down. From what I read of James Brown, he doesn't seem to think too much of Prince.

Is that really THE question? Well, P grew up on Sly & James, I guess they could all vibe on the same level. It seems that way with Prince & Larry, seems strange how James can't with Prince, but he can with MC Hammer! ??? And how past James Brown / JB members, like Maceo can too. I think James Brown, Sly Stone and Rick James are a bit bitter that Prince was the one that they had to hand the reigns of Funk down to, and to a lesser degree Prince thinking he's gotta pass that onto...???...D'Angelo? This James Brown-bullshit...they call him the Godfather of Soul. not FUNK!!! We all know that the reigns of funk still belong to George Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic)!

I don't like JB, either, but Prince obviously has A LOT of respect.
I think the problem is their EGO. They are too similar to get along.

...and I think JB was always jealous of the fact that P had better hair than Him!

James is THE man, but he passed his prime about 25 years ago. If James were still in his prime, Prince would be banging his door down to get him to record with him.
Much of Prince's live act is based on James Brown's '60s soul revues. The way he controls his band onstage is very similar to the Brother's. Prince's 'funk' screams are an obvious James influence. I read somewhere that James said he didn't think Prince had the funk that good early on, but by the mid-80s, he was 'gettin' it'. Prince and JB should still get together, leaving their egos OUTSIDE the studio, and do some stuff. How about a combo of 'Housequake'/'Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved'? That could be awesome! Got to get Maceo (and even Bootsy, if possible) in there too. Funk heaven.

Regardless of what they call him, The Godfather of Soul is also the flashpoint and father of Funk. Without JB there would be no George Clinton or anyone else laying down the rhythm of THE 1. Or couldn't? It was late when I posted that. Yeah, couldn't. And it's sort of harsh though; I was thinking about what I've heard about the infamous JB/Prince/MJ performance. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

it probably wouldn't work.Prince with George Clinton was a Bust.Hit&Miss with Mavis Staples.with Larry Graham more of a Stand-off than any knoc-out results thus far.very average with Chaka Khan as well IMHO.JB probably didn't feel the vibe&also He can still do everything that Prince is doing.I Mean the "Godfather" Ain't done but it's true He has been Past His prime for Years but some say the same about Prince so it all evens out. mistermaxxx

James Brown is the Godfather and a genius. He is a legend and without him there would be no Bootsy, Parliament, Prince, Rick James, or any of the great funk groups that framed R&B for the last century.
However, Prince did JB better than JB. At his peak in the 80s as a young song and dance man, Prince smoked James Brown as his peak back in the 70s. It would seem that the 2 would have collaborated as Prince makes no secret of the influence that JB had on him. He has spoken about it on film during the MTV interview and all you have to do is put on The Work or Prettyman to hear JB in Prince's work.

Please tell me that is a Joke? JB Rocked the 60's&Early 70's Almost Two Decades.Prince One Solid Decade.there is a Difference.JB had the Better Side-Men,&Grooved So Hard it ain't even funny.the Hip-Hop Nation just on Groove through Sampling&Looping will tell you who was Better."The Work" is the James Brown Circa 1976 when He was Corny&Tired.that ain't no Compliment to JB IMHO."PrettyMan" was catchy in a Low-Budget "DMSR" Kind fo way.Prince tired more things as a Stylist than JB but don't underestimate JB.He has this Blues Album that Smokes alot of Prince out of the Water.ask MJ,Prince&Others about JB in His Prime&if they could hang on the same Stage with Him???However, Prince did JB better than JB.
