Prince opening for the rolling stones Is there any footage that exists or even any photos never seen any? I'm just like everybody else I need love.....and water.

Yeah, you know the thing about the Rolling Stones, I don't talk to journalist too much because they... I was always reluctant to give interviews throught my career. And one thing about the Rolling Stones concert and just an example It wasn't as bad as what a lot of the press made it.

When was this interview with Brownmark? Because it was a pretty big deal, and Prince even flew back home saying he wasn't coming back.

There's an extensive description of the events of that weekend in Alex Hahn's and Laura Tiebert's The Rise of Prince: 1958-1988. © Bart Van Hemelen

When I was a kid, my family had ON TV (it was a subscription cable service, it's competitor was Select TV). Anyway, ON TV offered a live simulcast of one of those two Rolling Stones shows and they broadcast the opening acts, one being Prince. I didn't really get into Prince until a few months before 1999 came out (I was only 11 when the Stones incident happened) so I wasn't aware that the guy who getting boo'd was Prince, but it was indeed him. Does anyone else recall ON TV broadcasting the event? I remember the J. Geils Band performing too.
Obviously, this was pre-VCR so it was impossible to record, but there has to be video of this out there somewhere. Why is it so difficult to upload an avatar?

wow how cool finally seeing a pic.. of this "event".. Prince 4Ever.

Wow yeah just realized how massive that crowd is. I wouldn't want it to turn on me. I can imagine how it would affect a 20-something year old if it did.

This was only BrownMarks 2nd gig with the band.
So BrownMark saying in 2015/16 that it wasn't a big deal, has obviously forgot what a big deal it actually was.
And this is why I think BrownMark is a big blowhard. He runs off at the mouth and tries to change Prince's history. Just like the crap he just stirred up with JJ and that tweet, he knew he had her blocked. LMAO. This guy just doesn't tell the truth. He tells 1/2 truths, if that.

. VCRs have been mass marketed since 1975: https://en.wikipedia.org/..._recorders . So there is a minute chance that someone home-taped this and that it may still exist, perhaps forgotten in a box somewhere. More interesting is whether this broadcast (if it did happen) was also taped professionally. Considering that even something monumental like Live Aid wasn't really captured professionally, again chances are silm. © Bart Van Hemelen

I cant find any other photos and I have been looking for awhile.
It was a big effing deal to open for the Stones so it seems someone would have photos.

Like others have said, no footage has ever surfaced that we know about. That "ON TV" broadcast sounds interesting, never heard that it was ever broadcast! Seems likely, since what was fairly common practice by cable stations at the time, screening local concerts by popular acts.. Perhaps it'll pop up out of nowhere someday, much like the audio from one of the shows that a fan recorded from the audience (not just Prince, but of all the opening acts & the Rolling Stones set.. I haven't heard it in forever, but it was interesting to hear people in the crowd talk about Prince's performance.. Comments like "Wow look at all the garbage on the stage!" and "Maybe this isn't the right setting for them, maybe they'll go down better in a small club" or something like that).. Those recordings were posted out of the blue (decades later) so you never really know what's out there until it's confirmed, or leaked somewhere!

The part 'Fearing that BrownMark might quit after such a tramatic time...' was the commentors words. .
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
BM's words: It wasn't as bad as what a lot of the press made it.
Again, it was bad enough for Prince to fly home the 1st time. It was bad enough that they left the stage (BM included) the 2nd time. The only 2 who didn't leave the stage was Bobby Z and Dez. It was also so bad that they didn't finish out the remaining shows.

Yes, I believe BM is talking from his perspective, not Prince's. He's still talking from his experience to how the press made it. He was there.

So you are thinking it was more of Prince's fear? BM was 19, Prince was what,24? I think at the time it was a really, really bad thing. As the years go by the memory softens things a bit.

It most certainly could have been Prince's fear. IN all fairness, he is the one who would take the hit more because his name is above the marquee so to speak and the heat would be on him. Am I being too easy on Prince (as usual...LOL) to stay that I kind of felt sorry for him...whether or not it was an over=reaction, it obviously hit him hard.

I've always wondered what is so facinating about this sequence. I mean sure it makes for a good story to tell but it's become kind of an overrated myth IMHO. If you are facinated by it, I would be interested in knowing why A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Yes, others could have taken it as more humorous Dez laughed at the idea of singing Jack U Off to that crowd, so some of them might have anticipated a reaction But BrownMark putting things in perspective from the conditions of that day, would make real sense. I've been to concerts where people acted like that during and after, so I get what BrownMark is talking about.

I don't think I'm facinated by it. I'm facinated by those earlier Prince years in general. Which is also why I give props to those in his band during those years and this show over all latter people who came post PR fame.
