The 1984 (not 83) piano rehearsal finally not a fake It's in Duane's book: that "1983" piano session that surfaced 1 or 2 years ago with Father's Song, Venus De Milo, God, Raspberry Beret, Wednesday, Do Me Baby, Moonbeam levels and 3 unidentified instrumentals was recorded at Sunset Sound on 02/07 1984. The second unidentified instrumental is, in fact, You're My Love. . So much for all the "experts" who swore on their mothers' graves that it was obvious Prince wasn't playing that piano . I have to admit I myself had doubts about the authenticity of the recording, though. Hails to Duane for clarifying this! The date and that it was real was already confirmed by neversin and others on here when it was leaked when some people on here were bashing it and telling everybody it was fake because they were experts on Prince's piano skills

I hadn't noticed that at the time or I would have taken it for granted that it was genuine: Neversin probably already had the tape, since he has uncirculating material. We more or less know who else on the org has access to uncirculating material (at least those who have made it public), so when those people give info on leaks, it's pointless to argue, expert on piano skills or not A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

So the recording proves to be genuine. The interesting thing is, that it doesn't sound like Prince's piano style to my ears. I fully understand why people thought it was fake.

Having the tracklist confirmed doesn't mean it was him, that is not Prince on the recording I heard.

A lot of people thought it was Prince. The argument that it didn't 'sound like Prince's playing style' is valid. But when you've heard enough soundboards of him playing Mozart or Bach's concerto #1 at soundcheck flawlessly while giving the sound engineer instructions on various levels and effects for the night, then you knew it surely could be and likely was Prince. There are fans that argued me down to the ground in the 90's that Venus de Milo was Lisa. Prince didn't play everything his abilities allowed on record. In Tudahl's book, Prince takes deleted an apparently fantastic guitar solo because it was too perfect. Other musicians would've kept it because it was that good but that dude was different.

Just because it was perfect in his words doesn't mean it was actually that good. He called emancipation the album he was born to make. I'm feeling a bit fammy™

I've not heard Prince play anything like that. What are you talking about exactly. If it was when Lisa was in the band it was likely her. I'd be curious to hear Prince attempt to play such things. I've never seen him do anyting on the piano that would suggest he could play pieces of that complexity.

So an elite trader would have emulated a tracklist on the piano as some sort of evil scheme to fool us all? And the earth is flat? Don't make a fool of yourself by trying to bend reality to your wishes. It's genuine, there's no big conspiracy: it's just a tape. I'm pretty sure I have this still, though I think I only listened once and couldn't make up my mind if I thought it was real. I didn't notice the mention in the book, but I didn't pay enough attention to the thing when it came out to have caught the reference anyway. A couple of questions about the leak itself--was the whole rehearsal leaked as one file, or were there multiple tracks? And does anyone remember when, exactly--that will help me find it if I didn't delete it.

I pretty much say exactly what I'm talking about but if you doubt go read Susannah Melvoin's facebook. He played things like that for her all the time. IDK what to tell you other than FREEYOMIND!
BTW, he didn't attempt, he played such things. [Edited 1/11/18 20:59pm]

Okay, since I also wanted to know, I'll ask the question again, in a more specific way--the bolded implies that you have heard these soundboards featuring Prince doing these things--like a lot of people, I have some recordings I haven't gotten around to listening to, so which recordings have this material? Then I can see if I have them, listen to them, and hear exactly what you're talking about. That would certainly be more helpful than you deciding to refer to Susannah's facebook (unless she's decided to post these recordings, of course).

Are you all talking about the piano rehearsal that lasts 15 minutes that was booed as fake back in March 2015? As soon as I heard it was a fake, I didn't bother listening to it. Maybe I should give it a listen? FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

Go to a place where you can find 100 plus guitars and download...shoot me a message I may be able to send you something but I have so much it will take me a while to sift through. Some of this stuff is mid rehearsal.

Found it. Listening to it now, I'm not sure I even listened to it once, at least not all the way through. Why was everyone (well, not everyone, obviously) so sure it was fake, anyway? I mean, I can't say listening to it that it HAS to be him, but I also don't hear anything that would make me say it COULDN'T be him, either. Nice bit of tape. AND... it has You're My Love on it. I'd still love to hear a full vocal version by Prince, but it's nice to have this version of it performed by him.

There was a conspiracy, but don't ask me to elaborate on that because if I told you I'd have to kill you next . For the most part, anyway, there were people trusting their "ears", which is hardly ever a good idea. Hell, we've had orgers swearing Prince had produced Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines ( ) or Martika's A Magical Place in the past, while some others would swear it wasn't Prince playing certain things he had played on some tracks. Hell, it took 10 years for Princevault to finally acknowledge that Sue Ann's Make It Through The Storm was the same composition as Prince's original recording, and they still won't acknowledge that Jesse's Do Yourself A Favor is based on Prince's 1982 arrangement. . Sometimes it works, you can definitely have a good guess (I could swear it was Prince on the album version's intro of Like A Prayer, and Scififilmnerd was certain he could hear Prince on Satisfied, and we were both eventually proven right), and some past fakes were ridiculously obviously fakes, but too often one's ears is far from enough to make the call, particularly since not everyone has such great ears and many people tend to believe what they want to believe (like the Flat Earther above who still claims it's not Prince against all evidence). . I apply this rule to myself: I do not, ever, assume my ears are proof of anything: I always want proof based on associates' statements and sessions research. I'm still convinced I can hear Prince play the sped-up guitar on Save The People for example. But unless Duane or someone else reveals it's the case, I'll assume that my ears are fooling me, that any guitar player from P's camp was capable of emulating his style, that Per Nilsen's research is accurate and that, in conclusion, Prince does NOT play on Save The People.
