Prince actually reached out to female artists on the subject like Janet Jackson (unsuccessfully) and Mariah Carey on owning masters...of which they ended up doing later.

it was also that george had signed away his life pretty much at the age of 18 to some onerous contracts and Prince never had it that bad. Either way, the issue was power, control and money once you scrape off all the bullshit, you go up against a leviathan, you better have your ducks in order because most likely you're not gonna win.
