The big fro was just like when he was a kid. Apparently, Andy encouraged that but I've noticed she's ditched it. I think he'd have ditched it as soon as P&M tour was done. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Everything was fine until after Sign of the Times ('87).
Once the clothes started getting baggy and the Game Boyz became part of his band, it started to look like he was dressing in costumes -- on and off stage. He looked best post Sign of the Times when he stuck to fitted suits.
The Lovesexy years were particularitly cruel.

Everyone saying Gold era realizes he was coating a to of pale makeup on right? Watch that MTV Europe show or those 94 Miami shows his makeup line is crazy.

I hated the GB look - that facial hair did not work imo. The typhoon era wasn't a good look either. The rest i could always find something appealing - even the fro. His hair was just fine. His frame was skeletal already when he showed up in that orange outfit at that last awards show. And in those last official pics done at PP his face is gaunt. Again, the hair is fine. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

During 1993 and 1994 ("the slave years"),Prince sometimes looked too thin and pale, with way too much make-up on

I've always found Prince and his bands to be super elegant, no matter the era. I've pretty surprised at all the comments above. I'm not too fond of the renaissance or whatever look from the Purple Rain/Romance 1600 era, though, but it made sense in the neo romantic context of those years. The picture on the second album's cover is also plain ridiculous IMHO, but again probably was acceptable in 1979. The NPG between 1991-1996 style was all over the place too me That also happens to be the period I didn't care for Prince's look as well. Even though I do like most of Prince's Gold Experince look. I guess their style/look didn't make visual sense to me in connection 2 Prince. I didn't even like the stage set from that time period. It was all too much. Visual noise.
.
. .
there are a few 'album' covers of male artists from the 70s that look like Prince's 1979 album cover . This photo with Lindsey Buckingham reminds me of it

I think it had something to do with 'erasing' himself. I remember reading something about that during the Gold era

One thing I found interesting was how he goes on The View, debuts this look, and then two days later for the Chicago shows ditched the 'fro and the leather jacket. Also, I HATED those gold sunglasses. [Edited 1/8/18 11:19am] What I noticed at the time of this show but only got to confirm it when I saw the O2 Exhibition, was that these boots are two different colours!! One yellow, one gold!😎 I wanted to post about it back then but didn't think anybody else had noticed.

Thank you! No pigtails!! Did not like the fingerwaves on him either! They were about the same as the ones my great aunt used to wear! No More Haters on the Internet.

The whole Egyptian era with The New Power Generation. I have a few pictures in my magazine of Prince from alomst 2 years ago. I swear Prince looked like someone else. He did not look like himself. made his hair look like an Egyptian man. The clothes that he wore was terible. Prince was looking like a fool back in the '90's. I know that Mayte Garcia had not mention she studied bully dancing, sword dancing. Prince would looking the sexy fly Prince! Not this craze looking hot mess of an artsist

Graffiti Bridge, Love sign album, Last part of his life on this planet, sad as it may sound. But think with the Afro, he knew he'd gone full circle, and with the last tour on his own an all, I kinda think, he almost knew his time was done.

Makes sense if you consider Prince was a "brand" owned by WB so he'd have to look as different as possible while making a new brand for himself (Love Symbol) as they were going through the contract stuff. God is my Sugar Daddy.

Oh, the Ferigno look in the Raspberry Beret video deserves a mention; though the look as a whole fit the ATWIAD concept / image.
