Have we given up hope of positive news regarding any new releases?

This may come across as me being a bit of a moaning minnie but can we really expect ANY new releases (re-releases) now, or is Prince 4EVER and the expanded Purple Rain editions it?

I can't confidently say there will be any further physical releases, yes, we may as fans think an expanded SOTT or Parade is warranted, but is there a big enough market? Maybe there is, if I can pickup a deluxe edition re-release of Nirvana's Nevermind for example then I guess there's a case for re-releasing Prince's classic albums that would be interesting and worthwhile purchases for not only his fans but a wider audience.

Releasing his last ever show from the Piano & Mic tour, or a compilation of the best tracks from that tour, maybe on DVD/Blu-Ray too - we can all agree that would be amazing and I think there would be enough interest too to make a release worthwhile. I don't think the passing of time will affect sales either because Prince is up there in the pantheon of great artists and we can count him as standing shoulder to shoulder with the true greats like Hendrix, Lennon etc....but I'm starting to ramble.

I guess my question is, can we have any faith that the 'Prince Estate' (whoever that is) at this point will be able to get new releases out there, or do we need a major label like Warner Bros to step up and get it done?

With the upcoming 40th aniversay of 'For You', 30th aniversary of 'LoveSexy', 20th aniversary of 'New Power Soul', 'Crystal Ball' and 'The Truth', (and stretching it a bit) 10th aniversary of 'Indigo Nights' you would think someone would do something or even anything.

I have no real expectation of any forthcoming release. Hope was never a thing.

16 new albums will be released in the next few months, but we all agreed that it was better to hide this fact from you, and you alone. So we made sure there would be no announcement anywhere online, and we're discussing it on a hidden board that you will never be given access to. That's the reason why there was no news on the Org or anywhere else about new releases but don't worry, your record store will soon be flooded by Prince CD's.

.

As for the lack of market, you are correct. There is a market for the recent double CD reissue of Apollonia's 1988 album, as well as Martika's Kitchen or albums by André Cymone or Wendy & Lisa that had been out of print for 30 years. But those records were massive hits that sold by the millions. There is also a market for major superstars such as John Zorn or Buckethead to release a new album on CD every month or so, since every teenager will buy anything they release. But while all the aforementioned artists have strong audiences and massive media support, Prince is too forgotten an artist to see any album ever rereleased. Hell, when he died in 2016, there was hardly any article or report in the news, and you'll notice that there hasn't been a single book about him published ever since he died.

.

I'm glad you created this thread, it was much needed.

I don't think my post warranted such a saracastic response, get a life, dude. I'm not sure why I even bother coming to this site when there's people like you here, I've got way more important things to be doing.

A loooong battle over the rights if his music is blocking it. So we are not going to get a lot of new music in the coming years.

Then the Troll rushed at Big Billy Goat Gruff who bent his head and bravely charged at the Troll, catching him up in his horns and tossing him into the stream below. The Troll disappeared under the rushing water, never to be seen again. From then on, anyone could cross the bridge and enjoy the sweet green grass with the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Prince fans are so entitled.

Two releases in two years, plus merchandise on https://www.officialprincemusic.com/ and https://officialpaisleypark.com/ but no one is satisfied.

Most likely the next release will be a deluxe version of Parade.

I tend to agree.

My hunch is that the rights to the WB back catalogue are more clearly defined, so releases will come from that source. Which is what most fans most desire anyway. But a flood of re-releases on vinyl from the back catalogue were pushed back, so who knows?

Let's be clear, as much as we'd l-o-v-e that, it's not fact yet. If I were in charge (and I should be - just sayin'), I'd do a dual (not packaged together) release of deluxe editions of ATWIAD & Parade. They're sister albums and round out The Revolution's run. End of an era, etc. It's past time to do the 30th anniversary of some albums, so they can skip the idea of "anniversary" editions. Just do the deluxe versions of the outtakes we want. Clean up the bootleg market. We are willing to pay a fair price for this stuff.

No, that's not it, I don't feel entitled at all, whatever comes our way as new releases will be great but I'm not expecting anything.

I'm not sure what it was like for other artists with never released material, all this talk for years of a vault of completed never see the light of day projects, I just hope one day some of this stuff will be released.

Like any artist of worth with such an amazing body of work and then an awful lot of unreleased work, albums, live shows etc. why wouldn't we be interested in seeing this released but I certainly don't feel entitled to this. There's plenty of other music from other artists to listen to in the meantime.

Man, you ask a genuine question and it's interesting to see the reponses you get sometimes.

If you ever see on the news the estate has been settled, count a year or two after that. When Hendrix died, they got 3 albums and nothing for 30 years. The family was acting the same way. So unless you’re really young I wouldn’t count the days
