Anyone else ignoring the bootlegs since his death?

I used to be an avid collector of his unreleased bootleg material, but since his passing, I know that's all we have left, so I have made a conscious choice to no longer track down the new bootlegs and songs that come out. I think it's because I am all too aware that this shit is not unlimited. I always thought Prince would be like James Brown, and be touring well into his old age and regularly putting out new albums. But now he's passed, I am holding off for his unreleased stuff to be officially released on remasters or posthumous albums, which I know will be drip-fed in a trickle over many years.

I've already heard so much of it, and as exciting as it will be to get all the bootlegged material in HD quality, it's never as exciting as hearing something completely fresh and new to your ears. That feeling you get when you fall in love with a new song from your favourite artist and it reminds you why you became such a big fan in the first place. I still want to be having that feeling and getting excited for official Prince releases in ten, twenty, thirty years time (God willing!), so anything that's left in the vault that I hadn't heard before his death, I want to be brand new to me when the time comes for it to be officially released.

Nope, I want it all and want to get each new boot as soon as I can. There is probably enough music left in the vault to last my life time and I want to hear as much as I can before my time on this planet is over.

Me too. I am not a big fan of bootlegs, i admit i use sometimes though. But there's nothing like the artist recording, finishing these songs, make the artwork, promote, go on tour. Like if the artist didn't consider the songs good enough to be released officially then my interest isn't as much as if it the artist decides to give us these songs. I don't know if you understand me. I know, the more the better right? But in my case it can be a little boring to go after every f*** noise Prince has ever recorded. I also appreciate the concept of the album too much, album sequencing, themes, etc.

Yeah that!

Life's too short to wait. I'd rather get thrill of hearing something from a bootleg than not hearing it at all.

Fuck no, I'm not ignoring them. While there's something to be said for that initial discovery of a never before heard track on a CD - they *are* going to trickle them out, while the elite have gifted us with hundreds of tracks, both studio & live, in the time since his death. For that I'm thankful. And even so, Purple Rain Deluxe *still* included some things I'd never heard before ("Love and Sex", "Electric Intercourse (Studio)", "Father's Song (Studio)". I'll continue to download boots, and I'll also buy every new release from the Estate.

Keep your headphones on.

Honestly you think you’ll be alive when that stuff is released legitimately? The powers that be missed the window on death sales & no matter what we’d like to believe P will not make the record biz enough to warrant a release in the near future.

If anything, I've listened to them more. There has been so much new and interesting stuff that's come out (studio stuff, not more concert stuff although there is some nice soundboard stuff that has leaked) since his death. "Wally", Clare version of "New Position", "Wednesday", Jill's version of "Our Destiny"... those are great finds.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

One of the best bootlegs released since Prince passed was the "From The Vault & Previously Unreleased" CD on Purple Rain Deluxe, purely based on the same C-60 cassettes your regular BFTP CD is from if I'm to believe my sources neutral

.

Other than that no, I don't believe "this shit is not unlimited". The stuff in the hands of elite traders is limited, and again according to what I was told, you shouldn't hope for dozens and dozens of new outtakes to surface, but there's still a lot of live and rehearsals to be leaked. However, the sheer amount of what's in the vault is unlimited in the sense that we'll all be dead before it's all released: uncirculating outtakes/alternates from 76- 95, and everything after that (we have nothing from after 1995!!), + thousands of hours of rehearsals + thousands of hours of live shows. So since IDK when I'll die, I grab what I can when I can. To be honest I don't have time to listen so much to a lot of P bootlegs, including the new leaks, because I also listen to a lot of non-Prince music, but it's there on my drive for me to check whenever I feel like it.

.

You may be gone tomorrow, so grab it and enjoy it whiole you can. Even if you live 100, P's siblings' grand-children will still be releasing shit long after you're gone nod

Frankly...no! I ignored much of his bootleg material when he was alive with the hopes that he would eventually get around to releasing it himself. So for me, hearing a lot of his bootlegs is completely fresh and new to my ears and I get that feeling of falling in love with a new song from my favorite artist that reminds me why I became such a big fan in the first place. Even more so now because they're like special treaures he left behind, scattered throughout the world, to surface when needed. So I have and will continue to wholeheartedly welcome and appreciate every single bit I can get, whenever, wherever and for however long I can get it. nod

That's the thoughtful, sentimental Prince fan in me talking. I like her but she's new. lol

The greedy, never satisfied Prince fan for damn near 40 years, in me is flat out going...

It's only just very recently that I've started exploring the bootlegs and for me to be hearing the live shows and unreleased tracks is absolutely thrilling. They've helped me to appreciate his artistry and talent even more. I'm happy to dig for them in the knowledge that there's a whole other world of stuff out there that is circulating unofficially, and more where it came from, yet if any of the bootleg sets were released officially I'd buy them in an instant even if I'd already got copies of them, the same as many of you guys would I'd imagine.

Let's imagine if for example a stellar bootleg such as the 1984 1st Avenue Birthday Show or Small Club was released officially, with remastered sound, artwork including exclusive photographs, and extensive liner notes. Even if I'd have heard them as boots 100 times before I'd still buy them on release and appreciate them again with new ears and eyes.

You don't think that many people here would buy an official physical release of sets that they've enjoyed over the years as an unofficial bootlegged cd or something pulled from a file sharing site?

I bought the Black Album after owning 1/2 dozen different bootlegs of it. I bought 4Ever even though I already had the only "new" track on bootlegs.

I also downloaded illegal early releases of many of his later albums and still bought every one of them the day they came out.

There are plenty of us that will buy official releases of material we already have on bootlegs.
