Critical thinking and paranoia do not look like alike. Do you HONESTLY THINK THAT ANYONE WITH A BIT OF SEnSE IS JUST BELIEVING THe media??? One or two things on my list wouldn't necessarily make him paranoid. All that stuff together might mean he was. The freaking out over Morris's cell phone (a long long time assocaite), the freaking out over dry cleaning tags, the obsession with conspiracy theories (some okay, but believing most of them is disconcerting), the truth issues, the secrecy with even those he knows well (including wives), the David Icke book, the new world order stuff in his songs, the not looking people in the eye, the early folks describing him as skittish, the removing his wife from a hospital only to just take her to another one, the belief in a religion that teaches that government is so inherently corrupt that you shouldn't vote, ETC...
Let's say Prince believes a couple conspiracy theories and had people sign NDA'''maybe, one could argue that he is just really cyncial and self protective, but God Damn, put all those things together and he is coming off paranoid.
BTW, conspiracy theories can be conspiracies in their own right. The reality is that our institutions are made up of human beings who sometimes tell the truth, sometimes lie, sometimes have integrety, sometimes do not, who are sometimes selfish and who are sometimes not. The mainstream media is trying to make money, but so are the conspiracy theorist and alternate media. Critical thinking doesn't mean just refusing to believe anything that is mainstream in favor of cult like groups and fear mongerers. .

Maybe you're speaking of fans or exes who believe he was "communicating" with them through his songs long after they were around? It's not paranoia if it's true.

I don't think Prince was that gullible to believe everything he heard or read. Prince may have done some odd things, but I would not go so far as to say he was some kind of nut. He questioned a lot of things going on in the world, like all of us should.

Conspiracy theorists was a term made-up by the CIA. They use that term everytime someone questions anything. It is the most annoying and over-used word/term of 2017!! If you question something, you must be a nut or a conspiracy theorist? Ridiculous!! What is this world coming to? Are people not allowed to think for themselves?

We all have our moments when we are paranoid but it doesn't necessarily cripple us or make us following cults. I think it did for him. BTW, I don't know if JW is a cult, but if he checks his brain at the door and refuses to believe anything but the doctrine than he behaving like a cultist.

Everyone has freedom of religion, but the JW is not a belief system that I follow, personally. I think Prince turned to the JW and Larry Graham after the loss of his Son to help him cope, somehow. Good Lord, quite harping about Chemtrails. Chemtrails alone don't make someone have paranoid personality disorder. I don't agree with them and there are scientists who have showed proof for years to debunk but whatever. I am saying all of the things I mentioned added together make me think he was living in fear... I believe that conspiracies exitst--for example, the war on drugs is a plot against the poor and inner city IMO.... NOt everyone is going to agree. But if I believe in almost every conspiracy there has been in the last 20 years, then maybe there is a problem. Prince was also apparently preoccupied with the JFK conspiracies as well. alone that wouldn't be disconcerting (in fact most of us think something was up with that shooting), but this was just one of many conspiracies Prince harped on.
Prince wasn't crazy..mental health issues aren't crazy. He didn't need to be committed or anything.

Our government sprays chemicals in the air......it's a fact. They launch rockets and other shit into the atmosphere and don't tell us what they are doing. It has nothing to do with being paranoid. It has more to do with being aware of what is happening around us. Just my opinion & I don't think Prince was nuts at all. He was very wise.

what makes it paranoia to me is when people say things without good evidence. Dick gregory is an extreme example of a paranoid old kook. If Prince believes anything that fucker said, he's paranoid too. Chemtrails don't make much scientific sense, i'm paranoid as fuck but it's got to make sense for me to believe it. also, the statement of the girl who said he was worried about the tags on his clothes, that's definitely paranoia, we don't know how much of chicks' stories were true, but Prince was maybe paranoid but certainly distrustful, distant, schizoid just like any of the other rock stars in his class (Elvis,MJ, Brown).
Second hand information about what he might have/might not have said or meant doesn't really jive with me. For one thing, he did a lot of thing just to stir controversy. Whether or not he actually believed such things is a different matter. But here are a few "conspiracy" theories as food for thought: Gardasil, Lipitor, "driving while black", "wearing a hoodie while black", "too big to fail" bailouts, the media is owned by 5 corprotations, pharmas prescribed for 2yr olds, etc., etc. While we're at it, let's define paranoia - 1) mental illness characterized by systematized delusions of persecution or grandeur usually without hallucinations and 2) a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others. I dont trust the CIA either due to their clandestine nature but I do believe that some things are just what they seem. Shelby J once said that she would occassionally tell Prince "1+1 does sometimes just equal 2".. I think I know what she seems..not everything is a hoax. SOmetimes things are what they seem. Her statement says a lot.
Look at some of Prince's favorite movies "The Adjustment Bureau and Matrix" both about conspiracies, things not being what they seem but being controlled by others in a vast network of control. The Matrix is actually mentioned as a popular film amongst those who follow a lot of conspiracy theories. Conspiracies theories are a money making industry not just a term phrased by teh CIA...Conspiracy theorists sometimes remind me of the notices that pop up on your computer alerting you that you have a virus (even though you have Norton). You click on them or call the number provided and they either give you a virus or dupe you out of money for a virus you never had. This is a well known scam.

Well, I think our government is messing with the environment and our weather. I am with Prince in that he didn't trust our government/elected officials (he didn't vote). Every day, we hear about corruption. The news is just too much to take. Society is going down the shitter and a lot of people just don't seem to care.

Having lived in a flight path, I can say from experience that seeing condensation from airplanes, which dissolved within a few minutes, is very different from the criss-cross patterns all over the skies that now last for hours. I can't and won't speculate on the purpose of chemtrails but they are very different from what was once in the skies overhead. Doesn't make me a paranoid fuck - just observant. there are bigger problems and "conspiracies" that are out in the open like the imprisoning of mass segments of the black population. that is a real problem and no one does shit about it. any other race would be raising all kinds of hell over that. I was telling this guy of the time I was training a guy to do a job, while i was doing so, he told me he was schizophrenic and I mentioned that I felt sorry for the fella. the man i told it to said the guy should have been fired like he was, i replied that everyone is crazy, and I know what it's like to be thought of as crazy so i might have a little more sympathy than most people, it also helps that i don't scare easy, i always figured everyone should be scared of me.

That is not at all true. Many people read several accounts and research things and use critical thinking. That does not make them conspiracy theorists. COnspiracies exists but so do mistakes, mishaps, humor errors, and fluke occurances. Not everything has an elaborate mysterious plan behind it. Every book ever written has a bit of agenda or perspective but a critical thinker doesn't just throw the baby out with the bath water. Some of the mainstream information is likely to be true and some conspiracy theories are just elaborate hoaxes that try to convince others that there are underhanded reasons that strange things happen...but really sometimes shit just happens and no one is out to screw us over.

trailblazers use first hand research and investigation to prove that something is up...they don't speculate that aliens are running the country or waste their time trying to explain the unexplanable parts of history through theories, speculation and fear mongering. Conspiracy theories arent all bad but if they consume ones thoughts its unhealthy.

While we're at it, let's define paranoia - 1) mental illness characterized by systematized delusions of persecution or grandeur usually without hallucinations and 2) a tendency on the part of an individual or group toward excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others.
my question is to black folks; what are you going to do about it? and because this indian boy loves black folks, if you ever decide to finally stop putting up with this shit, i'm with you 100 percent and i don't think i should go into what that means. |

We do have a stigma in our society that if we don't follow what the mainstream media or what our elected officials tells us, we are all just a bunch of conspiracy theorists. We are sheeple and not capable of thinking for ourselves.

trailblazers use first hand research and investigation to prove that something is up...they don't speculate that aliens are running the country or waste their time trying to explain the unexplanable parts of history through theories, speculation and fear mongering. Conspiracy theories arent all bad but if they consume ones thoughts its unhealthy.

Right! It's only a conspiracy until it's an actual fact but the trail blazers who are trying to show the obvious are called "paranoid".
And that's where discernment and critical thinking come into play. That's also why, for the average Joe, conspiracy theorists are meant to be lumped together under that umbrella. Call someone a concpiracy theoriest, if they question GMOs, and you end up with statements like yours....aliens. God is my Sugar Daddy. |

David Icke who prince read did believe that aliens ran the country (of England) or something to that effect. So here's the deal. I will rephrase--- Prince's particular conspiratorial beliefs were (at one point) the most fearful of the bunch-- full of speculation and fill-in-the-blank inventiveness from the writer. . The unsolvable ones. If you believe that everyone in the government is out to get you for example, how are you going to demand change or answers. None of the explanations will ever satisfy you or be believed.
jfk theories are fine...harmless. Theories about WMD in the early days of the Iraq war were worth looking into and investigated and they were investigated by people who eventually were able to believe witness testamony by cross-checking their sources. If a conspiracy theoriest has no inside information other than cherry picked facts that anyone could find and speculations of the most fearful nature, they are encouraging their followers to believe no one (other than themselves) and therefore don't bother asking questions from those in the know because no one (within the world they are trying to speculate about) will give them an honest answer due to the fact taht being an insider by definition makes you dishonest and a liar.
IF Prince had issues trusting the government, he should have hooked up with a great many Van jones types until he felt that he had talked to enough insiders to have some understanding of what's going on. I am glad he seemed willing to do so eventually... he helped Black Lives Matter--that's how you fix wrongs. You don't tell everyone to just give up..like in songs like Dear Mr. man.

. Prince had religious faith, which requires you to believe things without proof. . He listened to older people who presented theories that he liked and believed solved some mysteries. Dick Gregory put out the chemtrails crap and other hoaxes. P respected him without question as he also did Larry Graham. Betty Eides' fantasies gave us Dolphin. . The Tavis Smiley interview with the chemtrails was embarrassing -- and since he dropped the subject shortly thereafter, maybe someone pointed out what came out of his private jet's engines on the way home. Patti LaBelle also called him paranoid bit said he got more human. He was fine. We all go. Not all so lucky to go with beauty and international stardom intact Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me. |

Conspiracy and thinking a different way isn't that strange. Having a jumbled train of thought and rambling about how people are after you is a whole nother thang. Newsflash people who worked for him stole music. Alan Leeds even said they contacted the FBI. Rumors that Duane stole stuff. Dave Hampton said in the Mike Dean podcast that when he came to work for Prince someone had purposely damaged recording equipment His ex-manager came out of the shadows the day after he died to steal. One of his lawyers stole a church he owned. He was not being paranoid he was being real. |

Yes.

I think Prince was curious and just trying to figure out "this thing called life", like the rest of us are.
