how much did you pay for One Nite Alone ... Live?

I'm glad I got as many of his CDs as I did - few as that was - but, eg, The Rainbow Children, Musicology, etc, before the prices went through the roof after his death.

Reading Matt Thorne's book has made me want ONE NITE ALONE ... LIVE but I can't believe the prices that are being asked even for used copies (let alone new/sealed ones - I can forget those, alas): 200 euros - usd$239 - that's $300 Australian - I saw the man himself for less than that!!

Just out of interest, what did it cost new? Anyone?

Musicology still goes for cheaper than a new album in the UK, not sure about prices elsewhere. I was lucky enough to get into Prince back in the mid-90s so I was able to pick up all subsequent albums for retail price. The only one I'm missing is the piano version of One Nite Alone.

I bought mine for £42 ($57) back in 2008. Great investment! I also have a shrink wrapped unopened 4CD box of Crystal Ball...no idea how much that could be worth now.

Got it in '07 for about £75 from ebay, it included the solo piano and voice cd so may have been a NPG music club version?. It was just around the time his residency had been announced and suddenly all his items seemed to going up on ebay, it was awash;)

I was very pleased to be able to get it, made my day.

Thanks for all of that. Prince Cds are the new Bitcoin, just as I feared. Maybe the estate will get its act together and I'll be able to afford them again ... some day.

100 bucks for 2 copies of it + 3 copies of ONA piano + the Xpectation d/l and a few more MP3's. I was a NPGMC member and they completely fucked up and sent me several copies biggrin

Un4tunately I was broke at the time so I sold my 2nd copy of ONA Live for a few dozen bucks to a wrecka stow, and when I moved to 100% digital I sold the other copy on ebay for probably 50 euros in 2010.

As for my 3 ONA's, I gave one to my GF at the time, the other to my best friend (I think they still have it to this day, at least the best friend I'm sure), and I also sold the 3rd copy on ebay in 2010 for probably 50-80 euros.

I can't remember exactly, but I'm sure it was under $50. I bought it when it was first released, like I have with all his others.

I bought the download for the cost of a regular CD on Tidal last year, even though I wasn't a member at the time. I don't remember the exact amount, but around $15. It is well worth it as it is one of the few post 2000 concert tours that features his current (at the time) music.

$100 as part of my membership to the NPGMC, which roughly translated to £50 in the UK at the time.

It was a bargain really and my best year with the NPGMC as I received priority seating at the three London Hammersmith Apollo gigs, plus soundcheck (more like a mini-concert) and aftershow/party access, as well as the ONA ...Live set, two copies of One Nite Alone Piano & Voice, and downloads of Xpectation and C-Note.

I've always wondered about those and the conjecture regarding the contents of Last December. Perhaps it was picking up where TRC left off? We were also originally promised The Very Best of Symbol too.

The piano solo cd was in every ona live box. Not only exclusive to npgmc but also in the ones sold in the regular stores. I know for sure because i felt a little less special to have this "unique" cd when a saw these box sets by the hundreds in every shop with the label on it that said "incl ona piano solo cd" smile

My conjecture is that Last December was a best of npgmc year one.

I'd always thought it was an early title for ONA Live since it was already a TRC title, but a reliable source told me it might have been a TRC remix album. IDK if it's true, but if so it must have been a hell of a weird ride lol

I have multiple copies of the cd but I think that I have 2 that are sealed and I saw where sealed copies were being sold for $700.00 on Ebay after his passing. I couldn't imagine selling anything that's Prince related for personal reasons but I always offer to send anyone copies of out of print items or rare singles for free. For me, it's about the music and not needing a physical item. In the old days, I would search through the crowd at a Prince concert and give one or two people cd's of unreleased music because I could tell they they were real fans and not just PR fans but they had to promise to not sell them and then later not post to the internet. Always about the music~

NPGMC release had the piano keys on the cd of one nite alone. The box set sold in shops did not have this artwork on the cd which makes it rarer

Thanks, everyone, for the comments and information. I had a hunch 200 euros was price-gouging and now I'm sure of it.

At the end of the day, there are not many copies of ONA for sale.

I paid 400 dollars CDN for a sealed copy with the Piano CD(NPG club version).

I am glad I have it...

You know if u just wanna hear the music there are many ways you can download it 4 free online, maybe even it's legally on streaming sites I'm not sure?

[quote]probably about $50 at Amoeba Hollywood.

I couldn't afford the NPGMC as a high school student with an insane parent who wouldn't let me get a part time job despite having two periods in high school without a class.
go figure.

Anyways, I stray....i wish mine were the edition with the ONE NIGHT ALONE album. It took me about 10-16 months to track down a copy. Of course it was downloaded.

Thanks for the tip. I am a collector too, but for now I'd settle for the music. For all we know in five years' time the estate may have got its act together and be selling it again for a reasonable price.

Actually, the only one I paid for was The Rainbow Children when first released (I think maybe $12). Musicology and One Night Alone were gifted to me by my brother and my boss" wife when they were first released many years ago! Blessed and highly favored, baby lol .

I seriously doubt these will ever be available again - in physical form, anyway. And it be because the estate does have its act together - and knows that it would lose its shirt trying to get everything into CDs (or whatever).

But it'd be great if they could reach a streaming/download deal of some kind - or sell the music online themselves.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
