Full disclosure: These are half-assed connections
I work with someone who grew up in Chaska, MN (right next door to Chanhassen) and played soccer in junior high with Big Chick's daughters. She said Prince would show up with Big Chick and watch their games.
I worked with someone else years ago whose family members were the beneficiaries of Prince's kind, generous nature. Her sister-in-law worked at PP and she had recently lost her father. Prince invited her and her mother to attend an awards show on the west coast and set them up at a spa out there before the show to get all done up fancy-like - hair, makeup, nails - plus a dress shop to get proper attire to wear.

ThatWhiteDude said: I have aspergers, and I don't know if Prince was one 2. But some of his actions reminded me of me and other aspergers. Well, we're not all the same types, but Prince had some ways that I have 2. And I only feel connected to people who are just like me, because I feel too strange in this world. And Prince is one of them. MJ and Eminem are supposed to be apsergers 2 and I feel connected to them too. Of course no one can say that they are aspergers you only find out when you test them, but somehow I automatically connect with them. And I have never felt connected to anyone who isn't an aspie. And I feel like, if I'd met them, they'd get me as I get them, you know what I mean. I understand the way Prince handled his adult life, because, I'd do the same if I could. Building my Paisly Park and avoid going out as much as I can.
Or when people said that he could come off as cold or not being able to show his feelings.
But it's not only that. I feel connected to Prince on so many levels. I'm only 5'2 too, when I found out that he wasn' tall I was happy, because I know that people showed him respect. And the love-hate relationship between him and his dad, I have the same with some of my family members. His music always helps me whem I'm having a hard time.
Tho I love all three of them, MJ, Eminem and Prince. I feel more connected to Prince, because, I don't want to look back too. I don't think you can go on with your life if you look back. Thanks for sharing that from your heart...Prince probably would have liked that. He was all about sharing it all with us through the music. Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...

You might call this half-assed connections, because you got the privilege to know somebody who's seen or met Prince in person. That's nice and good for you. But, connection doesn't have to be "meeting him or someone who met him in person." The "connections" other people have with him, are different and calling them half-assed just because we haven't met him in person, or someone who's seen him in person, is disrespectful.
A similar past/childhood can be a connection too. You don't have to meet someone who met him, or meet him in person........

I meant no disrespect. It was a tongue in cheek remark. Living in MN i love the opportunities I've had for people i know to share their stories with me. I have one more: My ex-husband used to be a bouncer at Bunker's a long time bar/club/live music venue in Mpls. Prince would occasionally show up and jam with whoever was on stage. On one such night he was making his way down a dimly lit corridor towards some stairs in an off-limits area of the building. My ex thinking he was some uninvited groupie due to how "petite and pretty" he looked from behind tried to stop him with a "hey you!". Thankfully another employee immediately shushed him before he made a complete fool of himself. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. Steve Balbi is in a band called Electric Hippies and also Noiseworks, with a guy called Justin Stanley. I just looked up asperger symptoms. You don't need to elaborate on the symptoms you have or may have had in the past, but some of the symptoms listed Prince seems to have had and others he seems not to have had.. 1.) hard time with eye contact (at times, he is reported as being that way, at other times, he is not reported as being that way.) 2.) difficult expressing emotions/cold at times--at times, definitely, at times (especially whilst engaging with audiences or in courtship) definitely not. 3.) not recognizing social cues or what others are feeling--he didnt seem to have that problem (he knew how to manipulate) 4.) not being able to control the volume of his voice...NOPE 5.) motor coordination problems--definitely not a problem for him 6.) facial expressions (sometimes his face is very still, other times it is extremely expressive.) 7.) rigid adherence to routine and focus--definitely had that in many ways, but he did change up bands and styles a lot so not entirely. 8.) monotone speaking voice--at times yes. But I think he adapted and imitated voices to improve his speaking voice and it worked quite well. I always thought he was just subtle in his speech patterns. But I guess that is something he might have worked on to improve.
He might be pretty low on the spectrum but I kind of think he had a combination of abandonment issues, avoidance personality syndrome and a bit of compensory (as in compensating) narcissism (not the same thing as unconditional self-love, its more like self-involvement resulting from obsessively perfecting ones abilities/image to compensate for perceived short-comings.--pun partly intended) .

1) Many people on the spectrum eventually do things allistic people normally do because it's a way to survive in an allistic environment. It's very enervating for autistic people though. 2) See 1. 3) Being able tomanipulate doesn't mean you are well-read in social cues. 4) Yeah, but you don't need to fufil all the symptoms to be diagnosed. 5) See 4. 8) See 1. full lips, freckles, and upturned nose

I see your point on most of these butI cant see how someone who knows how to manipulate and seduce others would not be able recognize social cues, little hints from behavior etc that indicate what someone else is feeling.
ALso, I never thought Prince sounded monotone exactly just subtle. Monotone to me sounds like comedian Steven Wright.

My dog is very manipulative, but I doubt she understands social cues full lips, freckles, and upturned nose

Prince's manipulations are a bit more complex than a dog's. Dogs don't really manipulate. They give you what you want for what they want.

I have no way to verify this...but i THINK and have thunk for years, that Prince copped my "look" for his 3rdEyeGirl stuff and ensuing multiple seemingly endless avatars.
I went to 11/12 of his 21 night stand initial shows at the forum and kept posting Facebook updates and setlists the same nights of the shows. I'd get down to the front from whatever section I was in right before the encores. Once or twice i COULDN'T get down and i was still up in the thinning crowd 3rd encore, same guy, black pants, black uk jacket black beanie and black shades. ***YES, i was THAT GUY; pretty much a character. ... but i tell you. .. glasses on indoors i knew the importance of seeingand witnessing this dude live, so once or twice i took a night and blocked everything out except the music and thought highly and rightly of the dude who made all "this" possible. Concentration. As a look... it was one if sensory deprivation kinda like the album cover. I'm sure i stoodout cause i can get foolishish and move a lot and yell a lot when i enjoy something. Watching Princewas like watching your favorite ball team and each little nuance was special. The shows were mostly differentexcept the last few. I suppose that is why he changed towns for a minute and came back a month later. He didn't do much promotion other than George Lopez. I still have a coyote copiesof the L.A. WEEKLY where he'd posted his SOLE advertisement. .. i think it was in February In my dreaming adolescent like mind i figured he'd seen my posts online (*they were the only PUBLIC things i shared; with statistic daily sey lists and banter. The only PUBLIC thing i shared EXCEPT for MY NEARLY DAILY profile pictures which wee my daily creations of MY SYMBOL which eye created, and copyrighted regarding my mind, music and the internal caged soul. Some were creatively funny, others simple and benign, others ridiculous. I had figured in my mind that the new simplified art direction might have been a result of Prince searching himself online for people trying to promote his shows/feedback Like i said. There's no possible way to prove it. But the art turn and the concept "artificial cage" all came soon. ..and i thought COOL! I've inadvertently shown my insecurities with these works and someone took am inspiration from that. Canny prove it though. BUT it wouldn't have been the first time i inadvertently impacted something in the music world. I believe i unintentionally got Rihanna's original backing guitarist fired and Nuno Bettencourt pulled in. (*who would've been thinking of NUNO?) ... I'd operated a rehearsal studio for years in the valley and was casual friends with her backing band. They still did shows as "sometimes we play together" ...so like i said. ..nuno was as far off the map. I'm glad he got that gig but have always felt a little guilt about it and playing that album in front of their guitarist, he recognized mastery and probably did it at a sound check. Also...I'm to blame directly for the change in artwork of LIMP BIZKIT (yes them)'s last album GOLD COBRA. I got them a good competitive deal at my studio and they were there in early 09, Wes and i used to have little chats about stuff including art Willie Nelson and especially art...art art. I had a "prison gallery" (*Joe because the job could feel like a prison virtually working 7 days a week) full of pencil sketches and completed drawings. The dude loved one of mine with ba girl and her tongue sticking out (*my then friend Jam) and it was later mocked probably after their road dog asked me what i thought of the initial artwork (*it's in the inner sleeve now) ....i said it reminded me of COBRA KAI (*NEVER DIE! ) and did the fist thing. Dude chuckled and said he'd tell him that i thought so (disparagingly) So. Although the album hit without much fanfare after they cancelled a UFC REUNION performance (*i wish they hadn't they needed propulsion again) They DID V change the artwork...i believe the cover was intended to say "Fuck you, Matt, here's your stupid girls sticking their tongue out" But i haven't talked to the dudes in a long while. So...sorry for the ramble. Im talking about PROXIMITY and effects. Not delusional. It's what happens when you're around stuff like that all the frigging time. I'd believed that thing with Prince and the artificial cage. Call me crazy if u will. I'll probably never know [Edited 12/28/17 19:06pm] ♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫
