So here it is, my new Ballad Blizzard.

I updated my previous 74 minute Mini Disc to an 80 minute MD, so I could include some more music.

But, due to outside influences (Anna Stesia still sounding great live and other people's playlist (RENNERS!), I have omitted a few songs and included some others, some I am not sure about.

Help me out.

About Mini Disc

I can record, then edit the tracks; cut them in pieces, fade songs in or out and even adjust the volume of the song, so songs from Parade do not sound soft compared to songs from The B-Sides.
I have omitted the "bargains" intro to If I Was Your Girlfriend, so it now starts like the single version.
I took off the bothersome “gong” outro of Do Me Baby because of time AND because it always irritated me.

Choices, choices

Absolutely no Diamonds And Pearls or Nothing Compares 2 U. Songs like these (think Scandalous, Insatiable) are just weak versions of Adore (or really Do Me Baby), where Prince does some sexy lyrics and then takes the end of the song into a sexy monologue. After Adore all of these attempts seem lame, except maybe The One.
And I know the list of Prince ballads is looooong. People will say; where is The Ladder, Condition Of The Heart? Everybody has his or her own faves and this selection reflect mine.
And if you want to know; The Ladder is beautiful, but the verses are rather silly, even though the chorus rings true in my heart. It also never makes the cut becuz Prince showed us that rehearsal outtake and that just sounds so much better, doesn’t it? Be honest. And as there is no version in roulation; no Ladder. And Condition of the Heart is still a contender, it just does not make the grade most times compared to the ones I like better.

Dunno if I keep When 2 R in Love, even though I like the lyrics, the music and total lay out of the songs can sound a bit dreary.
Also, new additions like Anna Stesia are on trial, as the song never worked as much for me as for peeps like the Renner guys, but the live version sparked something in me. Normally I keep out songs that celebrate visions of "God" that do not stroke with my own.
When We're Dancing is one of my faves, but still is a bit too long.
Gotta Broken Heart is rather expandable, if you compare it to Adore. But still very, very sweet.

Really Miss...

The Jazzy, instrumental intro to Power Fantastic (is 1 minute, 28 seconds, but with only 40 seconds left on my disc as it is now)
The One. I love the things Clare Fisher did to this. The idea of the lyrics is GRRREAT, even though the execution is sumtimes lame.
Let’s Have A Baby has always been a guilty pleasure since I came to the Org and found people dissing it. I just love Prince sharing such an obvious intimate song with us. He has been sharing his sexual fantasies with us, but hardly ever his visions and hopes for the future…

Don’t Really Miss…..

Under The Cherry Moon. Is a waltz compared to Sometimes It Snows In April. And Crucial. It is a power ballad to some, but again; I bet he took it off Sign “O” The Times becuz of Adore. SO shugs; I do not miss it much, even though there are a few beautiful lines in that lyric, ones I am jealous of….

It works quite well.

"When We're Dancing Close and Slow" is an underrated gem. Wonderful for you to include it.

I myself am VERY happy with a good version of the extended GIRL.

On the other hand; OLD FRIENDS 4 SALE is a bad version. I need to get a good version...

Love the changes Gooey I'm not sure about Girl though, the tempo & flow of the verses just seems so different from everything else, doesn't really fit IMO (but then again, you have Something In the Water, so)... I'd still swap Girl out for The One (how did you bring yourself to part w/ that one?!)

No. Like The Ladder; my fave version is not available in a top o' the notch version.
I hate the version on Graffity Bridge with all them party noices that do not fit the song; I want a cd quality version with the original intro. If I cannot have it; then rather not.

Then the synth lays a foundation, followed by that guitar cutting through your soul.

Then he starts talking.

The lonely sounds in the intro totally fit the loneliness he is feeling in the beginning of the song, the loneliness he tries to escape.

I indeed could not be parted with The One.
And Old Friends 4 Sale's bootleg version got irritatingly bad compared to the good quality of the rest.
And When 2 R In Love is just too bland compared to the rest.

I started doing ABC's when I say a chord book of Tori Amos songs and thought that it would be fun to record them songs in alhabetical order too.
I have a Bjork singles MD in ABC too, called A Bit Of ABC.
Cuz they did not fit all.
And a Bjork ABC.
And now a Prince one too; it works

Something to consider: many of the projects I've been making have turned out to be 2 disc sets of counterpart mixes. They have different themes but they go together. Like my 80's ballads have both sides:

1 disc of quirky, spiritual ballads
1 disc of r+b love songs

same with the 90's.

I've found that splitting Prince's songs like this not only makes for a more solid theme throughout the disc, it also unifies the sound.

But I do not like switching discs.

That is why I put them on ONE.

And I have been listening to the ballad blizzard all weekend.
It totally fit my depression.

But then I played OrgasmaTRON, hehehe; The Compilation Formerly Known As Tron's Hits 3 and it made me smile again!

No Ballard Blizzard could be complete without "Damn U"
