Was Prince the only band member playing live at the Super Bowl? In this Peach & Black interview with Morris Hayes he was asked about the Super Bowl. The fact he refused to say whether the backing band was playing live or not makes me think perhaps they weren’t. Unless he’s just messing with us? https://peachandblack.pod...interview/ Paisley Park is in your heart

There was sound issues at the rehersal and a recording was made just in case all of the equipment blew out because of the rain. I remember another interview were Hayes said his keyboard stopped working right when the performance ended.

I wouldn't doubt it if there was some backing tracks, given the weather situation. While he was wireless and able to keep himself on a live microphone, the band might not have faired as well in the open rain. This was a one-shot type of gig, with no room to stop and go, or have a do-over. Hayes resistance to say yes or no sorta makes me think it was probably was taped to some extent (the band parts). I can't blame them for that. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

bruce springsteen talks about how much more complicated it was performing for the super bowl, i guess complicated is the wrong word, he mentioned how the speed with which they had to get on and off stage as well as all the sound issues was something that he'd never seen before playing in a regular venue.

Prince did a fantastic job. He pulled it off without a hitch & owned that stage!
