Name 5 Prince songs that U thought the concert version was better than the studio version Topic has probably been covered b4 but hey...
So mine in order from 5-1 is..
5- Shhh Both similar but the version on The Beautiful Eperience video just had that edge escpecially in the guitar solos
4- Head Although Head is a masterpiece, I still remember the versions he did in the early days. Especially the 1981 most famous version. https://i.makeagif.com/me...jD2na9.mp4
3- Slow Love The phenomanal high eneergy SOTT concert footage made the studio version seem lacking in soul & energy
2- If I was Ur Girlfriend Whether its the SOTT or Live at Aladdin versions, Prince always found an extra dimension to this song live
1- Electric Intercourse Ok. Look. I could not make a studio song sounding as good as EI but for the record I think the raw honest live rehearsal versions were sooooooooooooooo much better than the regimented, falsetto studio releaserecently
Thank you | |

The Love We Make I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man She's Always In My Hair Days of Wild Those are the main 4 my brain can think of right now. Obviously inwas listening to Montreux 2013 last night. Basically it is amazing what this man did by 2013 with his own music.

The breakdown (check out the montroux 2013 version)
3121 (this song is better LIVE,he performed in 2007 while on tour and at the BET 2006 awards Sign of the times (the movie version ,1987 MTV awards version, and the 2004 rock and roll hall of fame versions easily beat the studio version.even the rehearsal versions I've heard are superb. Anotherloverholenyohead-Prince did great guitar solos when he performed this LIVE.check out the 2007 Superbowl press conference performance Peach [Edited 12/16/17 5:32am] [Edited 12/16/17 5:36am]

The intensity of the live performances more often than not dwarfed the album versions. That being said: 1) I could never take the place of your man—watching the video to SOTT movie and seeing the interaction between himself & Cat along with the guitar playing makes this tops (IMO) 2) Endorphinmachine 3) Fury 4) Laydown 5) Something in the Water "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

The classic case is
Fury (Saturday Night Live)
also She's Always in My Hair (3rdEyeGirl) I Would Die 4 U (piano at The O2) When U Were Mine (ONA - just wish there wasn't' a verse missing) Anotherloverholenyohead (c. 2007 - although I LOVE the studio version)
Actually, really need to improve Controversy from 2003 onwards. He took it to another level.
And tonnes more, if I had the time to think (like Avalanche).

Hot Thing sizzles live. Also, Play in the Sunshine (even though it becomes a more standard rock arrangement) has more play! Fury... yeah. Same reason that Hot Thing is better live. The studio version isn’t as lively ( ) My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Hot Thing from SOTT Fury from SNL Electric Chair from SNL (WOW) Thieves in the Temple from Piano & Mic gave me chills The Cross from LOVESEXY - the highlight for me.
On the flipside... When Doves Cry, U Got the Look and Sign o the Times never translated well in concert (for me at least).

Does no one think Electric Intercourse is better on the rehearsal versions?

I am mainly choosing songs that are fairly weak in the studio, but hell a tight on stage. Hence why I am missing out some of my favourite songs like Adore and Electric Intercourse, as they are hellatight on stage or in the studio/bedroom. . 1. Controversy, the album mix is great, but every show this song became a party and was usually the opening jam, so he put greetings and solos for band member introductions into it. It was the song that defined the live Prince experience, he played it in nearly every show he did after 1981. . 2. If I was ur girlfriend - sacrilege I know, but the versions on the SOTT tour, the movie and then that magical version on Dec 31 1987 Paisley Park concert - good god. And then dig his proto Lovesexy hairdo and outfit in that show. . 3. Mutiny - I know its a Family track, but when Prince did it with High Fashion on the Parade tour, it was wow squared. Usually some high steppin review with Jerome, Wally, Greg and Miko and Leeds swinging their instruments and Prince talking about cutting down Morris Day's oaktree. . 4. Purple Rain - I know, but every show Prince would improvise it and drag it out or bring it in - it was his most versatile song on stage. . 5. Love thy will be done - Mainly from his playing it on the Welcome to Australia tour 2012 - Prince would play the opening for several minutes, squealing, doing the song and doing lyrics about loving each other more and ending the war. The song could go on for 10 minutes or more. . WILDCARD - I would die 4 U , the live mix on Purple Rain Deluxe and the live video, the Sheila E drum sequences and extending the song with the arrival of Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss (Or was it Eddie M) is still funky and gives me chillblains to this day, especially Sheila E - I mean she is a one woman wall of sound. . But I would trade them all for a single Lovesexy Tour concert and aftershow. [Edited 12/16/17 18:08pm] Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Almost, its Top 10, would be higher but the studio version is so magnificent it is hard to spearate them, but the scream in the live mix - I mean hell yeah. I thought Prince was going to explode there - then the coy falsetto of the studio mix, this song is too good for lists. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

The vast majority of Prince's songs sound better to me live than the studio versions. It's not that I don't love the studio version of the songs, but I really grew to love Prince because I judge musical artists on how well they sound live as opposed to their studio work. (This is why I'm more concerned with live bootlegs than with studio boots.) As such, Prince's albums made me love his art, but his live shows made him my all-time favorite artist. Therefore, if I'm just randomly choosing five songs: "4ever in my Life," "Sign 'O' the Times," "Let's Go Crazy," "Colonized Mind," "Dreamer," etc. It would be easier for me to name the very few songs that I don't like as much live as I do the studio version. Since I never liked "I Wonder U," I hoped that it would be better live, but I like it even less live. The live version totally slows the flow of the concert. I never liked the "Thieves in the Temple" version from the Diamonds & Pearls shows, but I do like the shortened version played during the Rock-n-Rio show. This version of "Thieves in the Temple" keeps the song's funk essence in a way that the D&P shows don't. And, I hate the arrangement of "Housequake" during the Nude Tour shows. Other than that, most of Prince's versions of live songs either crush the studio versions or take them to a level that one almost couldn't imagine when first hearing them on the album. The songs from the first four albums are performed so wonderfully live that by the time 1999 is released, whenever I would hear a new album for the first time, I would always wonder how those songs would sound live, and, again, rarely did Prince disappoint with his live arrangements of songs.

I just listened to the studio version of Cause and Effect. I like the live version a lot more. Other songs I like the live version better: dreamer, days o wild, endorphinemachine, dark, fury, satisfied, breakdown

That guitar riff was what made that version the best ever.. This is just when Prince was just finding out who he was musically. Which built to his own sound BOB4theFUNK
