Prince Biopic drama; alternatives...

Does anyone else really NOT want to see ANYONE attempt to play Prince? It would just be cartoonish because Prince's combination of kinesthetic and personality traits cannot be replicated by an actor.

However, I do want to see a Prince movie because I think it's important. Instead, I think an animated movie could be more accurate and respectful and I think it would be more popular (read: more income for the estate). If you got the right people working on it, it could be amazing. What do you guys think about this idea of an animated Prince biopic?

So, I'm doing to write an open letter to the legitimate Prince peeps and attempt to get a response and make sure people like Vic Mensa DO NOT end up playing Prince.

The James Brown biopic was pretty good despite the kid looking nothing like James.

But I don't want to see a Prince biopic. The story just isn't there. They'd focus on the weirdness and tragedy but that isn't a good representation of his life.

If a Prince story could be good, what would it focus on? I was thinking that it'd focus more on his early career in the 70s and early 80s. You know, with Andre and everyone and Andre and Wendy and Lisa's stories + Chaz's stories + what we already know + the 50 pages of his memoir could be enough to base a movie on given the screenwriter was good enough.

But, perhaps an animated, finished version of The Second Coming could be good, too. I just only know the basic gist of The Second Coming and not what it's all about.

I can't imagine who would play him, but I also can't picture something animated, either.
I'd love to see a true documentary, though I think it's still too soon, that interviews all the people who worked with & for him - from the start on up.
I had a friend whose memorial was inspiring: people talking about how they'd been influenced by this person, how knowing them changed their life. The good, bad, ugly, & pretty.
I'd love to see something like this about Prince. 💜

The wierd thing is, as much as it is fiction, Purple Rain is kind of his biopic drama already.

Maybe there's another way to approach this, like maybe Across The Universe?

I was just going to say! Even though we all know Purple Rain is a work of fiction, it's probably as close to a biopic as we will ever get - mainly because no one will ever be able to write a definitive biography of Prince. I mean - just consider the scope of the assignment.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It blows my mind that it hasn't even been 2 years since he passed, and there are already talks of a biopic.

I just find it so uneccessary. Why hire somebody else to perform and be Prince when we have so many unreleased concerts and footage of the man himself doing it exactly how it was done.

.

If a biopic happens I say they should wait a couple more years

Completely agree they should wait longer to do this & instead release concert/live footage. Along the lines of the art of musicology.

A biopic would just be boring, or overdramatic like the Reelz "When Doves Cry".

By boring I mean, the man was working, working, and then working some more.
No druggy/rehab period, no childhood trauma (at least not an "original" one, such as going blind at a young age, or losing a twin brother), no comeback (he never went anywhere, the public just cought up around Musicology).

Ain't no way you're gonna pack a body of work so rich and complex in two hours. A TV series maybe, but then who's gonna want to watch it except for us maniacs.

I'm more for the documentary approach, in 12 episodes minimum. There's simply too much to tell.
There are decent ones out there, but we need a magnum opus, a video equivalent of "The Vault" (the book). The thing is, most of the times even his closest collaborators have no clear idea of what was really going on in his mind, and my guess is we'll never get a clear view. Besides, what's the point of taking out the mistery and the magic off of it? I'd rather let the songs speak for themselves.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
