and I hope no one ever puts one there for him..

I dont want anyone to walk on his name...

If they make one for him..let it be free standing...

not on the pavement amongst the others....

The article says Prince said the timing was not right. He did not flat out say he didn't want one. We don't know why. I don't feel strongly yay or nay, but "not on the pavement amongst the others...", is pretty dramatic. Many of those 'others' are/were fans. Prince is a shared beloved.

People donate money for relatives and folks they actually know to have a brick with a name on a new sidewalk, etc. People walk on that, no one thinks twice about that. The "walking on his name" is sorta silly. It's called a walk of fame for a reason. It's like complaining because another CD is in front of his on the rack at FYE.

All that aside, he really does deserve a star by this point, even if it's post-mortem. The bigger question is - what should it be in front of? I think it was Tom Jones or someone who's star was placed in front of Frederick's of Hollywood (because his female fans always threw panties on stage). I think somewhere near Hollywood & Orange (near Mann's Chinese Theater) would be great. High profile area, we've seen many photos of the Purple Rain premiere at that place, too. Seems like a nice full circle moment.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

There is nothing "deserving". These things have to be bought, and mean nothing. I really don't get why famz continue to be obsessed with this bullshit, or with online polls about "the best artist ever".

Wait. You have to submit your own name for a Hollywood Star?
How very egotistical!
No wonder Prince didn't have one.
He may have said "No one do it like Prince do" and spent a lot of time on image or fashion and makeup, but I could never see him submitting himself for recognition.

I'd like to know when he was offered a star.
I'd also like to l ow more about the BLM star. Where is it?

And finally, Prince might have not been shy about his many attributes, but I think the older Prince especially would want to consider himself one among many in equalness.

Once I heard that these have to be paid for by the artist (or often the movie studio, record label, or fanclub) it kind of lost some appeal to me.

I'm much more impressed by stuff like the stars on the side of First Avenue than I am with sidewalk squares.

From what I heard, the person has to pay for the star (many occasions the fans raise the money) and pay to maintain it.

Literally anybody with the right money or right connections can have a star on the Walk of Fame. I could have a star on the Walk of Fame with $60,000 (or however much it costs) in my bank account.

This setup really cheapens the value of such a thing but at the same time, Prince may as well have one at this point. It isn't as though he's not worthy of one and it's still an honor even if it is a paid one.

It's true - pay for it, and you can have it.

He already has a gold star at a place that matters far more to the Prince legacy than Hollywood:

My feeling is Prince should have one of these stars.
And wouldn't it be beautiful if his fans bought it?

Doesn't Donald Trump have a star on the walk of fame? Pretty much tells me everything I need to know about that.
I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

Oh, good! Given his implying that there would be a "right time", would you be interested in helping me unite fans and raise the funds for this from within our family?

Such a gesture by a musician's fans (family in Prince's case) would probably be a "first", and a sign of how much we love him for all he gave us.

No it most likely wouldn't.

.

Yes, disrespecting his wishes is exactly the way to do that.
