Chanhassen planning commission voted to recommend the city approve the request to serve alcohol during the week of the Super Bowl. According to Paisley Park management they’ve received corporate inquiries for corporate events for 250-500 people. They want to put up the tent as an entry point for guests. Guests would have no access to the museum part of Paisley, only the sound stage/NPG music club. No smoking would be allowed. Sounds like a caterer will be required for any food/alcohol.

The only thing I don’t get is why would a corporation choose to have an event at PP and not be able to tour the museum? Might as well find a ballroom in a hotel somewhere closer to Minneapolis then. Unless there will be a option to tour? Though PP management was very clear these events would have no access to the museum.

absolut nuts I don't feel that Prince would be pleased about allowing the most dangerous drug of all, alcohol, into his home and sanctuary. He never allowed it while he was there, why disrespect him now? disbelief

I thought it was allowed for private events? At least that’s what some are saying.

Perhaps this was allowed, yet I highly doubt that these 'private events' invited the general publc. There is no way to screen a general public admission to drink alcohol in Princes' home that would eliminate all risk of destruction or distubance of Princes' legacy and or belongings. twocents

Oh brother. They've already said there would be no access to the museum and of course there is not any access to his living quarters, anyway. It's not a permanent license, only temporary. Sheesh what more can people find to complain about?

Um, this isn’t inviting the general public either. According to Paisley Park management it’s corporations that have inquired about using the space. So it would be corporate catered events. Anyone attending would arrive and leave by bus.

It was allowed. It was my experinece in the early 90's that at Glam Slam on the VIP level, Prince's security team would invite people to come out to Paisley Park for an afterparty, on Prince's behalf. These parties were always held in the atrium. There would be a DJ, catered food, and sometimes liquor. They weren't open to the general public and were invite only. When Prince opened Paisley Park to the public in 1995, the parties/concerts were moved to the soundstage area, and in 1996 to the Love4OneAnother/NPGMC room. There was no longer catered food or liquor when that happened.

Thanks rogifan. With all due respect, and tongue in cheek, I'm absolutely certain that anyone from a 'Corporation' would never be an obnoxious drunk. Or that any closet alcoholic that works for a 'Corporation' would act out, black out, or be unable to recall how they behaved in Prince's home. Each to their own, I kind of think it's a money grab and very disrepectful to Prince. He was known to call the cops if anyone, even in his parking lot, drank or smoked. (And who knows, they might have even worked for a 'Corporation')

Somehow, I don't think Prince would want alcohol on the premises of Paisley Park.

I don't think it matters that alcohol was allowed at one point. Prince didn't allow it after he became a JW and I think that the estate should respect that.

This is silly. One we don’t even know what the events might be or what type of alcohol would be provided. It could be just wine or champagne. Or it could be drink tickets where you’re not allowed to drink as much as you want. The presence of alcohol doesn’t mean people are going to be drunk.

Do we know for sure because I’ve heard confilicting stories on this. The only thing that seems for certain is no smoking anywhere on any of his properties (owned or rented).

My update on this subject was moved to Fan Gatherings. sad

Here's the PROOF that Prince allowed alcohol at certain events: the Mixed Blood Theater gala which would have been held on May 14th, 2016:

QUOTE: "The evening is to feature cocktails, wine and beer, plus a "sampling of fresh and modern fare at the many food stations."

He supposedly didn't allow drugs in his home either, yet he died of an overdose.

No, you're right. Everyone knows bottles of booze are mainly used
to add a decorative je-ne-sais-quoi to a table.
Opening them is entirely optional.

I figured they would. I’m still curious what the point of having an event there is if those attending aren’t able to tour the museum. Then you might as well rent a ballroom at a hotel closer to Minneapolis.

A silly question maybe, but are Justin Timberlake going to do a tribute to Prince at the halftime show? I haven't heard anything about the show.

Yes seriously. I’m assuming hotels all over the place will be full up with events.

Anyway the city council approved the PUD for up to 1000 guests per night, 7pm to 1am. http://chanhassen.granicu...lip_id=349

Key words. Finding a place closer in to have any kind of event is a fool's errand.

Right I’m assuming those having events secured a location a long time ago. I guess maybe you’d use PP if you didn’t and needed to find a place? It seemed odd to me that as of last month PP only had a few maybes unless groups wouldn’t commit if the PUD wasn’t approved?

mad I saw an article this morning. The City of Minneapolis is allowing alochol to be sold inside of Prince's Paisely Park estate. This is wrong in so many levels. It's like someone is trying to exploit Prince's name and the brand for himself.

YES, you are wrong on so many levels.
1--Paisley Park is NOT in the City of Minneapolis.
2--Prince was not against alcohol. He was just careful about it being allowed only in private parties like this HE APPROVED IN 2015:

.

The City of Chanhassen approved the alcohol permit for Super Bowl weekend. Keep in mind, this is only a one-time event. They don't have a liquor license for PP. I don't see it as being a real issue, as Prince has done this in the past for other events. I'm sure the alcohol will be monitored.
