Paisley Park submits request to be able to sell alcohol on the premises the week of the Super Bowl Did Prince ever allow or sell alcohol at Paisley Park? Just seems disrespectful. They really think no one will show up for Super Bowl events unless they can drink? I hope the city says no but they won’t because they’ll want the business. 😔
EDIT: I think I’ve changed my opinion on this. PP would be crazy not to open it’s doors for the Super Bowl. Most likely it will be private parties not random yahoos showing up and getting drunk. https://t.co/WMzWkoVoeP [Edited 11/27/17 16:57pm] Paisley Park is in your heart

He personally had wine and champagne there BUT the no alcohol policy was due to city ordinance and licensing. That's also why most events were "donations;. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

On a podcast (I think it was Funkenberry) Adrian Crutchfield told a story about how he and a couple other NPG Hornz players smuggled in some alcohol without Prince knowing because there was no alcohol allowed in the building. I hope if this request is approved it’s for champagne only and not a sign that they want to start selling alcohol there on a regular basis (hopefully the city would never approve that). Please folks, let's not be naive and act like Paisley Park NEVER served alcohol. Before Prince found religion he used to serve it all the time at parties and shows I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

Jehovah's Witnesses have no prohibition of alcohol though, and many do drink and have alcohol at parties and other gatherings.

I wonder if they are planning some special events for that week? Or they just want to be able to serve alcohol during their normal business operations at the moment? I was under the impression PP is only open a few days a week for tours and thats about it right now. I often drive by in the early part of the week and the parking lot is vacant and the place looks dark save for a few token purple exterior lights. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

I don't have a problem with it. Prince isn't around to complain anymore and a lot of people enjoy a drink. I don't see why it matters that PP makes money off of it either so that was an odd comment.

IDK, it's a complicated question: do the dead rule over the living? . I seem to remember that Prince once said in an interview that he'd sold the Glam Slam clubs because he was uncomfortable making money from people getting drunk at the bar. For all I know the club just weren't profitable and it may have been just an excuse, but maybe he also was sincere (and alcohol-free clubs were obviously not something that would have worked). . In any case, Prince was generally opposed to any use of mind-altering substances for recreative purposes. But IDK how profitable maintaining PP is, and that raises a deeper question: should it only become a museum in P's memory, in which case it may be unappropriate to sell booze, or should it also be a place for living creative people to record, rehearse, film and publicly perform music? In the first case, having people getting drunk at for the Superball may be unappropriate. In the second case it's a place for the living and a certain level of tolerance is OK, as long as people don't start writing racist or anti-religious graffitis on the walls and as long as it doesn't become a place where people just come so they can get drunk while listening to shitty commercial music. . PP could become a start of the art recording studio, and an ambitious, challenging concert/DJing venue with focus on quality artists and DJ's. I wouldn't mind that. Life is always preferable to death.

WRONG. back in the 80s and early 90s,Paisley did in fact have a liquor license. I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

Paisley Park never had a liquor license and he didn't serve it at public parties and concerts. I went to some private parties in the early 90s where liquor was served. When Prince opened it to the public in 1995, alcohol was never served. TRUE BLUE

Exactly. We even know Prince loved Pinot Gris, thanks to his butler at The Rio (2007)l.
This is about legalities. Obviously, he didn't want liability issues and drunkenness at the public events (which were already "shady" because PP was not a licensed, public facility until it became the museum and had modifications). But at private parties, fund raisers, etc? That's different. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

I had a great time dancing to what the dj was spinning when I was there in May of this year without having one drop of alcohol. I hate to think that it's going to turn into another club where drunken 'guests' will be stumbling about, falling over things and/or breaking them. I don't think this needs to happen at all.

I’d be curious to know in the last decade or so how many private parties at PP there were that Prince hosted where alcohol was served. Paisley Park is in your heart

I doubt PP management or the Estate wants to have to deal with everything that goes along with having a liquor license and who knows if the city would even approve it. Paisley Park is in your heart

My hope is that artists use Paisley for its intended purpose. Record and perform. Prince is music because it flowed through him. When not open to the public, it needs its pulse back. Hallelujah Whatever supports it is fine. Just in respect and moderation. Drink limit like a ball game.

WTF has this to do with Prince's music ? "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Goodie for you. Anyone who has a glass of wine or a beer is immediately a falling-down drunk? Really? The enjoyment of a quality beverage is part of an excellent dining experience, which Prince loved. So judge him, too. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.
