Do you still listen to Prince the same amount you did before April 21, 2016?

For me personally, up until about a month or 2 ago, I was listening, almost exclusively to Prince, since 4/21; working my way through all my CDs - many of which I hadn't listened to in years.

But I just started to listen to all kinds of music again.

How about y'all?

Pretty much. I like what I like, don't make much an effort with what I don't. Prince is what I dominantly play but not the only person I buy but that list isn't long at all and never has been. Yet when I actually think about more people are on it then I'd passingly would say.

It happened gradually enough to where I didn't notice, but I haven't been listening to Prince nearly as much since around August/September.

no. they are not. and never will. see I loved his music since 1984, owned most of his albums (didn't love all of them) but was a bootleg virgin when he passed. since I'm not into tabloids and media in general I missed most of his interviews as well. so there was a lot to catch up which I did but while my 4tb purple harddrive filled up pretty quickly there's still so much for me to explore ... and the more I listen the more I want and the less I desire to listen to somebody else ... including way more than the music meanwhile ...

I'm pretty much listening to his rare gems and extended versions at the moment along with some of my fav soundtracks eg. Blade Runner (1982), Annie Get Your Gun (1950) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). My favs I have on rotation are Wonderful Ass, Girl, We Can F*ck, Extra Loveable, All Day, All Night and of course my all-time fav Prince song Purple Music

i dont listen to Prince nearly as much as i used to...from AOA to right after hitnrun 2, i was listening daily to his whole catalog...when he died it stopped... ive gotten back to the point where i listen to him occasionally, but its not the same intense joy and spiritual connection to the songs anymore... unless its "And God Created Woman", "My Love Is Forever", "Stare", "CoCo Boys", "If I Was Your Girlfriend", or "In A Large Room With No Light".... my Prince playlist has shrunken considerably recently....

My listening habits weren't impacted by P's passing, at least not that I can remember.

The only thing that may have happened is that I haven't listened to HnR Phase Two very often ever since, while I was tripping on it a lot. IDK, it wasn't a conscious decision, I guess deep down I felt that suddenly it wasn't "the last Prince album" anymore, it was "the last Prince album".

I revisit a lot of the nineties. I try to interpret the name change
as a way to strip himself from a lot of his habits.
As a result, there is very little of the eighties in his nineties music (doh!).
What I mean by that, the effort only is remarkable.
A lot of false starts, half-baked ideas, but it's always been that way.
But the gems, oh boy. They're just as good as any of his gems, no matter the era.

I have the uttermost respect for the way he chose to go back to the underground,
while waiting for the inevitable comeback : the PR anniversaries and the RNRHOF would have happen anyway.
He could have sip Martini in St. Barth like all the rest.

Nahhh, Hallucination Rain, Days Of Wild, Supercute and Shhh instead.

Back to the club, crib!
And then they bore themselves to death.

Before he left us, I was much more of an occasional listener than I am now. I've always kept up on all of the releases, and I would get them and give them a listen. But over the last 20+ years, life didn't always let me absorb them the way I would when I was younger.

Post 4/21, somehow, someway, Prince appears every single day. I listen at my desk at work, or in the car. Or I read something that I haven't seen before. Or I come here and read interesting things posted by all of you.

I've started listening to the music loudly like I did when I was younger, re-hearing things that I hadn't heard in ages, loving it all over again. And those things that I had purchased that I never really fully absorbed, I've been listening to those and letting them find their place with me.

I imagine this is how I'll be for a long while to come.

after he died i listened to so much that i forced myself to take breaks just to get away from the idea of his death but truth is, i've always listened to a lot of his music, at nearly 50, i don't have time to dig through every kernel of music out there and i don't even have time to listen to as much of Prince's music as i'd like to, i'm too busy practising piano, working, etc.., just today i listened to his oakland p&m show for the first time, there is a lot of his music out there, i'll never get to it all.

It took me about a year to be able to listen to Prince's music after he died. It hurt my heart to hear him sing and I was unable to keep from crying so I had to avoid social situations where I may hear his music. I've healed gradually and can now listen, enjoy and love it like I used to.

maybe that would be the case for me but my life is so steeped in pain, it's familiar to me so i listened, i listened to his albums i listened to the potpourri we got flooded with post death and i listened to the final shows. painful? ya, but i live there. just yesterday i noticed what a few other posters had said about his oakland show, he told them to come see him at PP but not in the winter, in the summer. I thought it was strange until i realized that was his usual cryptic way of telling us to come see him after he dies.
