The Irony of the Current State of Uptown . . .

is that, ostensibly, Prince wanted out of his record deal to be able to release more material to his audience, and he also indicated that the label was driving a wedge between him and his audience as a result.

But in reality, now that P is "free," he has released LESS material and he is as distant from his audience as he was when he was on Warners, if not MORE so.

As much as I love him and his music, I am reminded of Lord Walsingham's last words to the Duke of Norfolk in "Elizabeth":

"You were the most powerful man in England.
You could have been greater still.
But you had not the courage to be loyal.
Only the conviction of your own vanity."

We love the man, but can we trust him anymore?

Well with the club I am sure he has released more music at any other time in his career with the exception of that 95-96 era.

Oh yeah? Last year alone we got two standard albums and a 3CD live box set, PLUS a world tour - when was the last time Prince put so much out for us? Even in the glory days of the 80s Prince would usually only put out 1 (maybe two if you count the proteges) albums a year.

BS. SEVERAL protégé albums. Plus B-sides, videos, movies, extensive tours, etc. And not to forget that most of these things were legendary even back then. Not just quantity, but also quality. And you could actually find most of these things without too much effort, and buying them didn't cost you an arm and a leg.

are the ones who definitely wanted Prince to slow down anyway in 1997-2000... We can go back through the ol' Prince.org threads and dig this up...There is even some site with a replica of the original Prince.org.

Please. You don't know me, B.A.M.

Anyone who didn't step off a short yellow bus (sorry, B.A.M.) would realize P doesn't care what anyone thinks. He's like Miles -- he doesn't really care about what his audience thinks. So why would I waste my breath on him?
Why would you think that? Oh yeah . . . u don't know me, B.A.M.

Wow, B.A.M. . . . for someone who accuses me of not having anything better to do, u sure do know about all the sites, don't you?

The fact that you are probably a Prince apologist and call yourself a "fam" gives you no right -- none -- to go off on somebody you don't know, B.A.M. Quoth the legendary Melle Mel: Step off.

Have a lovely evening.
