I think the Estate should release a compilation album that covers Prince’s entire career. What songs would you choose? Sharon keeps talking about the music. OK if Prince owns the masters to all his work how hard would it be to pull together a compilation album encompassing his entire career? It drives me nuts that so many think his career ended after Batman or Love Symbol #2 because that’s like the last album they can find on iTunes. This is something I wish the Estate would have done last year. The only time a lot of this music is heard is when The Current radio station in Minneapolis does a Prince A-Z. This could be something to have out in the marketplace while they’re working through the vault and maybe tie it into getting all non WB albums on streaming services/iTunes/Google Play etc. What post ‘92 songs would you include on a compilation album? I’m still tweaking my definitive list; will post when finished. Paisley Park is in your heart

Gross, no. MJ's estate has done nothing but continue to release compilations. There has to be more MJ in there somewhere. It cheapens an estate's worth, I believe. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Oh please. 4Ever should never have been released. I’m not saying we need an endless parade of compilations. I don’t want that. But we don’t have one that spans his entire career. What is so wrong with wanting that? There’s a lot of good music post 92. Btw, I play post 92 stuff for friends who aren’t die hard fans but know the purple rain era stuff and they’re like ‘Wow, that’s Prince? That’s really good’. Just pisses me off that people think his career ended after Batman or whatever. [Edited 10/29/17 10:13am] Paisley Park is in your heart

^That's a pretty cool list, although I'd throw out Dinner With Dolores, The One and Xtralovable and replace them with Gold, Sexy MF and When I Lay My Hands On U.

imo these kind of topics are ridiculous, as it ends always with a list containing half his material spread over 15 CD's, or anything like that.
Now, grow some balls, and do what the topic starter asks, AND do it old school and choose 9 songs and put it on a compilation A and B side! Of course you can't creep in every other album, but hey...
A side: Sign the Times Controversy Kiss
B side: Paisley Park Gett Off Somewhere Here On Earth

since his 90's lps are more like 40 min to 60min long...if u subtract the weak tracks ...u'd have about 40 minutes of EXC tracks...like the 80's

I would mostly include the singles, simple as that. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I think a lot of thought needs to go into what versions of tracks are included if it's to be any good. A really good boxset telling the story from 1993/4 to 2016 could be truly, truly excellent but would need a lot of research and selection.

This kind of release has zero value to me.
They need to concentrate on the vault material first and foremost.

Good attempt, i'd buy it! Disagree with this and that here and there because of personal favourites but that's to be expected. [Edited 11/2/17 6:38am]

Yeah, I made the decision to not include ANY B-sides because it comes down to what would I leave off in PLACE of the B-side? I wanted Erotic City, 17 Days and She's Always In My Hair on there, but then something else would have to go to make room, and I just didn't see that happening. As it was, I edited a few tracks here and there to make room for more total songs. Automatic and D.M.S.R in particular I feel work rather well as edits. Obviously there are folks who'll disagree with the practise of editing, but if it made room to include even more songs, and the edits weren't jarring (which they weren't), I went for it.
The Beautiful Ones... Another song I desparately wanted to include, which is why I used the version from 'One Nite Alone...Live', just so the SONG is on there somewhere. The shortest disc here is 78:59, so there really wasn't any room to include more music. Everybody has their own ideas on what constitutes a "Best Of" for Prince, and this is mine. BTW, I particularly LOVE the last two discs. He really was on a creative roll the last twelve years or so of his life, and those two discs in particular have one really strong song after another. But I always get sad at the end of 'June' (the last song).

Great attempt. We're all going to have different opinions of course but on the last disc I'd have found a place for Revelation and Free Urself. They were 2 of his latter classics IMO, along with Way Back Home and June
