Think the consensus amongst most fans would be MPLSound, but without Elixir and Lotusflower. Check out classics like There Will Never b Another Like Me, and Chocolate Box, both most would agree are top 10 overall Prince songs. Some also would include classics, When Doves Cry and I Could Never take the Place of your Man as top 10, agree, but from different albums, so must be MPLSound, enjoy it

PURPLE RAIN SOTT 1999
This should always be in the TOP 3, because these are the most iconic in his catalouge and in music history.

Prince's music is so diverse so it stands to reason that his fanbase would be equally as diverse. You'll get fans who only listen to his guitar stuff, some will prefer his rnb, others will refuse to acknowledge anything after 1988. One thing you won't get though is anything even close to a general consensus on what his best album is. Purple Rain, Sign O The Times and 1999 would probably be the 3 most mentioned albums and yet none of them are my favourite. thedance, bless him, will tell you that Hitnrun phase two ranks among Prince's worst albums and yet for most other fans, it's a latter career highlight. Everyone has their own idea of what kind of music is best and because Prince did most genres over his career, it's impossible to get any agreement on his best work. Though for what it's worth, my top 5 is: 1. Controversy 2. Dirty Mind 3. Purple Rain 4. 1999 5. 3121

Surprised noone has mentioned "It Ain't Over, the Afterparty". Best Prince live album IMO.

Unanswerable, but I have to go with Parade - today. Tomorrow it will probably be Purple Rain, and the next day Sign O the Times, and the next day 1999. Any of those might be my answer if you catch me in a certain mood.

I was literally just about to type the pretty much the same answer: Parade today, but it changes constantly - so PR tomorrow, SOTT on Thursday and 1999 Friday. Talking of which, I’m going to listen to 1999 now...

. I actually think we would all be united on how mediocre at best that album is. I loved it back in 2009, but the novelty wore off at Lightning pace. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'm so happy that you put Diamonds and Pearls in your top 10! . I think his 5 greatest albums are: 1. PR 2. SOTT 3. 1999 4. Dirty Mind 5. Parade . My 5 favourite, in terms of what I listen to the most often (approximately): 1. PR 2. D&P 3. SOTT 4. 5. Prince

We had those rank your 10 favorite Prince albums threads every coupla years (we should have another one with all the post-mortem new orgers) and consistently, the Top 3 would be: 1- SOTT 2- PR 3- 1999 IIRC Parade and DM would also usually be 4 or 5 A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
