To be fair, the single doesn't actually say they are singles, just that the album includes those tracks. I do love The Continental though, great track.

Probably his best album of the 90's... Where there are some fillers towards the end... And God Created Woman has to be one of the best Prince songs ever.

the first P album i actually really disliked. It's a mess from start till end, filled with fillers hiding as works of art.
I actually like only Sexy MF, and could listen to MNIP and 'Melt' - that one even only in Kirk's remix version.
All the rest is depressing to me.

So many classics, excellent videos as well. heart

the prince album may not be in my Prince top-5, but in my top-10 for sure. music

My first "depressing album" came with Emancipation, however I have learned to like Emancipation during many listenings in the years. wink

This album contains a few of my all time favorite songs.

My CD only has an embossed prince I just looked on PrinceVault and apparently it is an initial copy of the CD.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Let's celebrate! dancing jig The year was 1992 and I was FINALLY over the age of 21. I was 22...HELLO! tumblr_oxth0tW9HK1u4ro8uo1_75sq.gif A perfect size 6. batting eyes Young, fine and couldn't nobody tell me shit. hmph! At least that's what I thought until I heard...

"In a word or two, it's you I wanna do
No not your body, youe mind you fool
Come here baby, yeah
You sexy motherfucker

We're all alone in a villa on the Rivera
That's in France on the south side in case you care
Out of all yoor friends I wanna be the closest
That's why I tell you things so you'll be the mostest
When it comes to life, to be this man's wife
You got to be well educated on the subject of fights
I mean prevention of, in other words
It's R E A L meaning of this thing called love

Are you up on this?
If so, then you can get up off hug and a kiss

Come here baby, yeah
You sexy motherfucker
Come here baby, yeah
You sexy motherfucker

We need to talk about things, tell me what cha do
Tell me what cha eat, I might cook for you
See it really don't matter 'cause it's all about me and you
Ain't no one else around

I'm even with the blindfold, gagged and bound
I don't mind, see this ain't about sex
It's all about love being in charge of this life and the next
Why all the cosmic talk?

I just want you smarter than I'll ever be
When we take that walk

Come here baby, yeah
You sexy motherfucker
Come here baby, yeah
You sexy motherfucker

Horns stand please
I like it, I like it

You seem perplexed I haven't taken you yet
Can't you see I'm harder than a man can get
I got wet dreams comin' out of my ears
I get hard if the wind blows your cologne near me

But I can take it, 'cause I want the whole nine

This ain't about the body, it's about the mind
Come here baby, yeah
You sexy motherfucker!

You sexy motherfucker
Come here baby, yeah
You sexy motherfucker

Tommy Barbarella in the house
Scrub the dishes

Come here Tommy, yeah
Sexy, sexy, sexy, sexy
Levi, levi, fly
Ooh man, let's give 'em some more good shit

I like it, I like it
Sexy motherfucker shakin' that ass
Shakin' that ass, shakin' that ass
Sexy motherfucker shakin' that ass
Shakin' that ass, shakin' that ass

Guard your folks and get your daughter
The sexy motherfucker's so fine I could drink her bathwater
A long, leggy 5 foot 8, packing an ass as tight as a grape
I want to spit some game but I said to myself

Just conversate, 'cuz I'm usually quite the calm one
You never found me out prowling boy, I'm just havin' fun
I'm happy to change my state of mind for this behind
I bet that if you threw that ass into the air it would turn into sunshine

Sexy motherfucker shakin' that ass
Shakin' that ass, shakin' that ass
Sexy motherfucker shakin' that ass
Shakin' that ass, shakin' that ass

Sexy motherfucker shakin' that ass
Shakin' that ass, shakin' that ass
Sexy motherfucker shakin' that ass
Shakin' that ass, shakin' that ass
You sexy motherfucker

Sexy motherfucker, sexy motherfucker
Sexy motherfucker, sexy motherfucker
Sexy motherfucker, sexy motherfucker
Sexy motherfucker, sexy motherfucker
You sexy motherfucker
Sexy motherfucker, sexy motherfucker

Sexy motherfucker"

It instantly became my theme song. To this very day, in certain parts of the city, if that song is played, there are people that will start looking around, anticipating me showing up. Good times, yes indeed! tumblr_ox5qt45Ybv1u4ro8uo1_75sq.gif

I'm sure my other posts about "Damn U, My Name Is Prince, Morning Papers, Love 2 the 9s, etc., have been seen so needless to say, I freaking love that entire CD! tumblr_ox5e7lxBjK1u4ro8uo1_75sq.gif Thanks for the fun and the memories Prince! kiss2

Ah, the Symbol album. When this came out, I was having a great time in life. So many awesome memories. And I listened to this CD for weeks. But after giving it a zillion spins, it slowly dawned on me...

.

This was the first time I felt like Prince was trying too hard.

.

Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great stuff on this album. "Morning Papers", "7", "Get Off"... but there's also a lot of filler too. The segues, the edited reporter stuff that doesn't hang together, fluff like "Blue Line", "The Max", "Arrogance", "The Flow"... Revisiting this over the years, it just doesn't entertain like it did when it was new.

.

But the one song I can't believe I ever liked: "My Name Is Prince". Maybe moreso than "Dead On It" from "The Black Album", and the pointless raps on "Diamonds & Pearls", this song was a clear sign that Prince was feeling his time on the top of the pop hill beginning to wane. It's a bizarre, cacophanous, unnecessary, chest-thumping reminder to the world that Prince is cool. He didn't need to do it. He was always cool.

.

Anyway, I don't want to come across like I'm slagging this album. It's definitely enjoyable. But as I've matured as Prince fan, I can look back at his catalogue with a discerning eye and be honest with myself about what works and what doesnt.

"Get Off" is not on this album (and neither is "Gett Off", which is the song you were probably thinking of).

Yes, I've "grown out" of this album too. It's not just that the rap stuff doesn't really cut it anymore, but "the stylistic excursions" into classical, reggae, techno and so on just scream "early-90s" to me. However, you've got to appreciate the diversity and the sheer audacity Prince was putting into his work at the time.

The album is a mixed bag for me, but i am quite fond of about half of its songs...especially damn u, 7 (7 is not talked about much on here, but I remember loving the song as a kid and I still do), And God Created Woman, Blue LIght, I wanna melt with u, sweet baby, and Sexy M.F. . I also like P's live versions of the Max with 3rdeyegirl.

My favorite 90's albums are the truth and gold experience. Emancipation's production is kind of generic but his singing and melodic writing is strong so I think that album is great for its potential. Love Symbol and Diamonds and Pearls are mixed bags as albums. MOst of his albums are mixed bags in the 90's but none of them do not contain brilliant highlights.

Not if he's overdoing it like he does on this album where Prince the songwriter gets lost between Prince the bandleader, the producer, the wannabe rapper, the sex symbol, the freaky preacher... Lots of noise and jams and raps and beats and poses and expensive studios and sound effects and attitudes and arrogance and look, ma, I can do a rock opera too! But good songs are hard to find. Love 2 the 9s is a nice combination of a gentle r&b song and rap. The Morning Papers would've been good if it wasn't for the cliché "shananana"... Blue Light, The Max, I Wanna Melt With U and especially 3 Chains O' Gold are awful. The Continental is good funkrock and Sexy MF is fun. The Sacrifice of Victor is another great hunk of funk which tells a fascinating story. But the only really good songs (not just jams) are
Damn U
7
And God Created Woman
Three good songs and three kick-ass funkjams on a 70+ minute album... That's not good enough for me...
