Bootlegs made a lot of us much more intense Prince fans than we would have been otherwise.

There's a book, Bootleg: The Secret History of the Other Recording Industry by Clinton Heylin, which is a good read. A lot about how classical concerts were bootlegged long ago, and the history of Dylan and Stones bootlegs. It also contains somewhere in there a reference to live sound engineer Joel Bernstein, who Prince addresses through the mic during the August 18, 1988 show (Small Club, which is of course one of the most famous and influential bootlegs ever). The reference made me think Bernstein was the one who leaked that soundboard tape.

Small Club is my favorite bootleg of all time.

In 1989 it was talked about more than the Black Album.

We don't share them here but we can talk about them as much as we want. Just don't post them, link to them, ask for them or offer them.

The mods don't allow posting links because the site has been literally harassed by Prince's lawyers for years and years, and as long as the estate don't show that they're cool with it, they prefer to keep it safe. Several boards, including the great Housequake.com, have ceased activities due to P's harassment. The Org, at least, is still standing.

Girl

One thing that I have thought is strange though is the lack of leaked pro-shot concert video.

We know that there is defintely stuff out there amongst band members/associates. For example;

-Japan Nude tour rehearsal footage

-Pro shot footage of Budapest 2011 concert shown by Andy Allo's brother

-Pro-shot Piano and Microphone show from PP shown by sound engineer

These are just 3 that i can think of off the top of my head...

Any insights as to why there is not as much video as apposed to audio??

The recording of the 1988 aftershow held in ''Paard van Troje'' (august 18/19,1988) was made by a co-worker from the venue. While there was heavy security, the co-worker managed to plugged in a recorder into the soundboard. Within months it was released through a French label called '' Martens Records'' on a 3-lp set. On the cover, the source named: ''Alternative Mobile''. But in fact it were TDK SA90 cassettes.

wonderboy

Seems like a recall a story from the LoveSexy tour in Japan. The sound man and Prince got into a spat because Prince did not like the sound. Prince started messing with the board and supposedly jacked it all up. The sound man stayed up all night redoing it. Likely not a coincidence that we have all those Japan LoveSexy soundboard shows circulating.

This may be more Prince lore.

Most of us that participated there agree that Housequake.com was "great". How would researching about it change our opinion of that?

I thought Housquake was awesome for the hard core collector like myself. The org has always been nice but it seemed more people here were more interested in what he was wearing or details like that. I was more interested in the music and collecting the music. I got that from the Quake. I'm not saying either was right or wrong. I just knew which was better my fandom at the time.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
