The Vault lists very few titles between the years of 1979 through 1982. If you compare say the year 1980's total output versus a year like 1986 - when more is known about his studio production - what you are struck with is how little we know of what he did then.

AND HE WAS RECORDING FAST AND FURIOUS THEN TOO.

Even acccounting for his work w/ The Time and associated artists.

I would bet diamonds to donuts that there are probably 20+ songs, fully recorded and mastered for each of these years alone that we know nothing about...

True - even with the tremendous amount of leaks the last few years, 79-82 is strangely absent (of course with a few outliers).

It might just be a case of "not that many people were involved", so those folks are more loyal. We probably see more 84-87 stuff because SO many people were orbiting Prince that lots of tapes "escaped" in one way or another.

Whereas, in the early years, it was just Prince and his band, and The Time, and Vanity. They seem less likely to leak stuff against his wishes.

Then again, who knows
