Prince RRHOF induction Process

I find it interesting he was inducted the first year elegable when he had been out of the mainstream for so long. Does anyone know the story?

The only thing I find noteworthy is that he was not inducted sooner. Prince is pretty much peerless.

As the OP noted, he was inducted the first year he was eligible - therefore, he COULD NOT have gotten in sooner.

To answer the question at hand - he certainly wasn't at the peak of his fame in early 2004, but it's not like he was off the radar. Regardless, there are some artists who earn their placement in the hall so early that is all but a matter of 25 years. Commercial fortunes at the time aside, Prince's spot was assured long before 2004.

I think that the 20th anniversary of purple rain kinda helped him back into the mainstream

He was a genius and was recognized as such.

Bands/artists are not eligible for induction until 25 years after their first record.

Being in the mainstream has nothing to do with your past work.

It would have been interesting had he not been inducted the first year he was eligible. Now the HOF is a joke because artists that should get in don’t and others get in way after they’re eligible (like ELO). There should be some rule that if you don’t get selected within 5 years of first being eligible you can’t get in. Also improve the process so good artists get in to begin with. Get rid of those on the committee who have a clear bias and way too much influence over who gets in (like Jann Wenner).

Why do you think there should be a rule that if you don't get selected within 5 years, you can't get in?

Amazing. Can't be arsed to look up the rules, still has to post his uninformed opinion.

Let me just say that I think the 25-year rule should have an exception clause.

No, it shouldn't.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Because if you had 5 chances to get in and couldn’t get in then you probably don’t deserve to be there. Otherwise pretty soon everyone will be in there and the HOF will have no meaning. Electric Light Orchestra was inducted in 2017 22 years after they wee first eligible. Using my methodology they would have been eligible between 1995-2000. Looking at who was inducted during that time I think there would have been room for ELO if people thought they were worthy.

Just gonna have to disagree, I think when you are eligible you don't have to be nominated in the 1st 5 years. JMO

wow how strange! eek eek

to "attack" FlyOnTheWall for his/ her thinking, that Prince was an exceptional genius... cool

He sure was "the biggest genius in his generation", but of course... someone (certain Orgers) needs to "attack" others all the time, it's their habbit... I believe..?!
